Thanks for the replies. What I had in mind was a real cut so that, for example, if I cut half way through a 10 sec clip, only 5 sec would remain, the other 5 sec would be gone – non-restorable. Thus, if the clip were opened in the layer panel, the total duration would be 5 sec. This would be analogous to opening a clip in PPro, razor cutting the clip in half, and then exporting only one of the halves to AE. Dale

Thanks for the reply. I have been thinking about masking, but I’d like to take into consideration the irregular and constantly changing waterline that results when the boat is in a seaway. That said, Some of it I can cover up by creating a displacement map representing the bow wave and another for the stern wave. These can be animated to move along and recede with the boat as it changes distance from the camera. By carefully setting the displacement parameters, it can be made to look pretty good. To handle distant shorelines, I’m experimenting with painting the surf on a transparent layer (mostly a ragged white line) and fading it in and out to simulate the arrival of successive wave fronts. That said, I’m still hoping to figure out a procedural solution.

Thanks. Indeed, closing the Resource Central panel and saving the project file keeps it from opening again when the project file is re-opened.
My goal is to NEVER have it automatically access the internet – even when a brand new project is started. Is there a way to completely prevent access to the internet at all times unless I specifically ask it to?

Works every time! Spend hours trying to make VPE work, give up, write the forum, find the answer on next try!
Been snowing up here a lot – work’s every time. Forecast snow, buy a snow blower, then it doesn’t snow!
Thanks. Dale

I’d like to pick this up again. I’m using Ps CS5 to create a vpe file – following Aharron’s tut exactly. I am able to save to a folder from Ps but there is no comp in the folder, just a vpe file a 3ds file and the PNGs. AE CS5 wants no part of it! I’m looking for some help – not sure what to try next. Thanks. Can you provide a reference to the Adobe Press book you mention – I can’t seem to trace it. Dale

I may be a day late and a dollar short on this one – but – I have also experienced this problem and have made the observation that the brightness of the BG seems to affect the situation. Namely, a darkish BG clearly shows the black outline whereas a bright one doesn’t. Just to check this, I moved the FG around to examine it over different parts of the BG and sure enough, the outline disappears whenever the BG is bright enough. BTW, I’m keying HDV (m2t) rendered as an uncompressed AVI, 16 bit project, and Keylight. Also, before keying, I have added a channel blur and blurred the R and B channels 1 pixel while retaining edges. Maybe this will help someone. Dale

I’ll have to check out my avatar!!
Your response helps somewhat as I am (was) unaware of how AE uses RAM. That said, I have a quad core Intel of some kind with a 2.3 G clock. The processor board in the tower is such that at most 8 G of RAM can be plugged in and that’s what I have. I was hoping that there was some reasonable way to perhaps network the rendering function to another dedicated box (presumably costing way less than a full up PC) such that between the PC and the black box there would be an improvement. Another possibility is to replace the processor board with one that takes more RAM but then I don’t know about power and cooling capacity, and would have to deal with installing all the software again. Anyway, I’ll keep poking at it and will read the other material suggested.
Thanks

Thanks, I tried it and it worked. Dale

Walter, guess I should be in AE basic. To close this out, a new day, a new result. Yesterday, I could not make it work, today it does. Thanks for you support. Dale
