I would like to suggest you to clean up your Mac drive because there might be system junks, caches, language files, log files, widgets etc. would be presents in your Mac disk. Stellar Speed Up is a good cleaner which helps to remove all these unnecessary stuffs from your Mac disk and free up consumed memory. However, you should check the Mac hard drive health also and repair it with Disk Utility.

Yes, of course Mountain Lion has great features, it is updated version of Lion. OS X MaverickS is the latest version of Mac OS. 200 best features added in Mountain Lion as example- Gatekeeper, Airplay mirrioring, iMessage, iChat, enhanced version of iCloud, photoBooth, Power Nap, updated version of safari etc..I am sure , You would love to work with Mountain Lion.

You should boot your Mac by holding the option/alt key from keyboard and select the volume to boot and set in System Preferences > Startup Disk.
One most important thing- The name of bootdrive and clone should be different. Try Stellar Drive Clone to create clone of your Mac however CCC, Super duper has great reputation.
