i would toss out that while it is not typical cs2 behavior, it might be the software and not your mac. no so much the specific copy of the software (assuming it is a nice legal shrink wrapped copy), but rather some soft of conflict between it and some other plugin, etc. on your mac…
have you tried any cs2 or adobe help forums as well?

a simple rollover won’t be active content – so if those aren’t working then there is another culprit…

search the archives for this forum – it’s a frequent topic here…
wrt to flash – not really – email clients show basic html, but you want to avoid getting too fancy like that – plus anything you reference via html will be downloaded to the user and i’d be pretty pissed as a user if you sent me a newsletter that took that much time to open…
keep newsletters with simple quick loading graphics and not a lot of fancy css – javascript interaction also won’t work very well, so avoid that, too…

i’d also just consider using paypal itself – they offer cart services and the likes that you can tie into your site for free (only fees are per-purchase fees)…pretty easy to do and i’ve purchased lots of software (and other digital files) from people that way over the years…

i’d try the html file route at least once – all they’d have to do is open one html file, and you could talk them through that on the phone – if it fails miserably, then go the static picture route…

maybe mail them a cd with a series of screen shots (or the entire site that can function on the disc if it’s all html) and then talk them through it on the phone and have an interactive discussion that way? cds are cheap to burn, and you could send them one every few days if need be…

you can set your library location in the itunes prefs, and in theory if you set both to the same place and put that lib in a place on the box that you both could write to (like not in one of your home dirs) then it should work…

your best bet is an open source flash player for this type of thing – there are a ton out there – look for flash music player or flash jukebox or the likes in your search engine of choice. good ones will take xml playlists and options for playing on load, etc. – and they will offer the ability to customize the player’s look and feel as well…
