Thanks, John, you’re a lifesaver.

Will activating the mask function on the dominant video track automatically make the mask exclusive (or inclusive, as the case may be)? Or do I need to somehow indicate that? More simply, how does it determine whether I was to retain what’s in the mask boundaries or retain what’s outside of the boundaries?

I know, ironic, huh? All the advantages of digital video and we go through all this trouble trying to re-create a 60-year old media technology…

You know, I’ve played with those and while they work well ‘on the fly’ I’ve found the simulated stutter, etc, still look…simulated. The stuttered from moves too smoothly. Although, I wonder if applying the effect and THEN converting to 24p wouldn’t make the motion jerkier?

I was thinking more along the lines of things like cropping or moving a frame in such a way as to actually make it jump up & down like when a projector misses sprocket holes and you actually see half the frame above and half the frame below momentarily divided in the screen. I suppose I could spend a whole day experimenting to try and emulate that, but was just hoping that maybe someone would share their experiences in how to actually do that and make it look real (or should that be reel?).

Also, the end-of-reel ‘bloom’ of partially exposed film. I guess one could simply animate the brightness or do a slow fade-to-white? But I get the feeling that still wouldn’t look real. Anyone try tricks like that? I imagine de-saturating the color at the same time would be an effect of end-of-reel overexposure?

Also, I would like to creat the pre-roll runner with the handwritten marker notes on clear film. I wonder if anyone has tried simulating that?
