Here’s a quick proof-of-concept animation I made to test out lip sync:

Thanks again for the tips. Works like a charm.

Brilliant, Mike! The velocity envelopes. That’s the connection I wasn’t making on my own.

Thanks to you and Stephen for the interest. I’ll try to update with some project footage when I can. This forum is the best!

I’m a little new to this, but when I key and render a clip, it does show up with a “black background”. That’s actually the alpha channel being represented as black because there’s nothing there behind it.

Have you actually placed the clip into the editing timeline and tested it? Remember that the keyed footage has to be above whatever the background is. So keyed footage should be on “Video 2” for example and the background on “Video 1”.

Okay I tried Jon’s and Roland’s suggestions first and it worked. AE choked through the render and eventually gave me what I wanted. But I will heed Dave’s warning about the freaky file formats in AE and try to avoid them in the future.

I do have the drive space right now, so I’m going to give Kevin’s suggestion a shot and convert my AVCHD files to one of the lossless formats first (in Vegas), then do the keying in AE, then render into the same file format.

Thanks again. You guys are the best!

    I get what you’re saying.

Still, if a make a plain old solid (in AE, of course) how can I give that 2D solid some 3D depth?

    Thanks,
    Cuitla
