I know this thread is extremely dead but I wanted to provide an easy solution for those (like myself) who found this thread by googling the problem.

Next to the frame rate in the Preview window, there is an dropdown menu for “Skip”. This is what limits the framerate; if you set it to 1, it’ll skip every other frame. Setting this to zero fixed my problem!
