Don, the problem I see is only when I encode to DVD (Compressor to MPEG2). At that point I see twitter. It is, in part, content related, so you may not see it at all unless you have thin horizontal lines. In my case it’s tree branches during a slow zoom out.

Curious about the results with BitVice.

BTW I also have Telestream Episode (see the COW forum) so I’m going to see if that’ll do a better downconvert the Compressor.

Barefeats Motion and Barefeats Games did tests on the graphic cards.
The ATI Radeon cards handle Core Image better which is important for video work.

You have the Free Flip4Mac Player which includes the trial of Flip4Mac Studio series. You’d need to purchase one of the Flip4Mac Studio series in order to be able to export a full length video (any length) to WMV.

DG has “grandfathered” in older customers. Actually I’m one of those also. They are asking new customers to use 720×512 though.

16 lines at the top and bottom does not work for DG. They need all the lines on the top. I beta tested a patch that Telestream created and is now part of Episode 4.4.2. The reason for the lines on top is, amongst other things, to accommodate Nielsen Sigma Encoding (tracks use on the air).

If one has Sigma encoded the spot you can now click a button in Episode and the black will be added to the top. If one does not use Sigma encoding one can click the button and meet DG’s 720×512 spec.

If you’re not using Sigma encoding and DG still accepts your 720×480 encodes than no need to worry. Keep going as you have before.

Many laptops have Express card inputs.

I don’t know many people who’d want to mount a laptop to a tripod given the risks to the laptop but if there were such a demand some 3rd party would be likely to do this.

Video input meaning ???? Many laptops can capture video through various means. You’re certainly not going to find one with HD-SDI inputs but there are 3rd party devices for that.

Some folks even wonder if Sony would come out with their equivalent of the P2 Store for SxS. Given the cost of a P2 Store, a laptop can be had for the same price or less with many more useful features. On the other hand there are certain shooting situations where a device like that would be space and power efficient even if it cost as much as a laptop.

Hmm, the XDCAM Transfer Tool docs say G5 2GHz minimum (with 1GB RAM). It also says OS 10.4.11 or later, Quicktime 7.3.1 or later. It describes those as “required” rather than suggested. Maybe Sony is being a bit “conservative” about what people can get by with.

It’s interesting to see that it will work on a G4. I wonder if the other specs can be “stretched” a bit too.

If the PowerBook has DL-DVD burner and you’re using 8GB rather than 16GB cards you can burn them to DL-DVD. I guess at the time PowerBooks only had DVD burners but I’d thought I’d mention it just in case.

Select the sequentially numbered folders. It’ll sorta see those as the containers of the BPAV folder just like the SxS card contains the folder. This is the trick to getting the XDCAM Xfer tool to seeing the contents. If you try to add the BPAV folder directly, it won’t.

BTW you should try to install VLC on the PowerBook. You might be able to see/check/screen the clips that way even if it chugs a bit on playback.

You can certainly import those BPAV folders once you copy to something else. It doesn’t have to be back to the SxS card at all. I’m not sure where you getting that those BPAVs can’t be imported. You’d have to hook up that G4 to another computer though so it would see the hard drive.

The G4 will have SLOW USB transfer speed from the camera though but it can work as a portable storage device. You might even be able to play back the clips with VLC but I can imagine it would stress the CPU. VLC doesn’t seem to need the EX codec installed to play back the MP4 source files.

I’ve been able to import BPAV from the desktop. I selected the Desktop as the Add device and it then found the BPAV.

You mentioned that you dragged 5 BPAV folders to your laptop. I can only assume you then put them in separate folder or one BPAV would overwrite another. Each BPAV should be in a separate folder and it is those folders, not the BPAV that must be pointed to with Add.

In other words
Create Folder
put BPAV in it
Create another Folder
put next BPAV in that
etc.

Use ADD command for each folder and XDCAM Transfer tool will fine each BPAV and the files within.
