Yet today I walked into Tekserve and walked out with stock 6 core model. MacMall also says same day shipping on that model.

  • Walked into Tekserve today and walked out with stock 6 core model. No waiting. I asked what the wait would be if I wanted 512GB SSD instead of stock 256GB SSD. They said that could be several weeks.

  • Although do consider that in NYC I can buy at B&H and have a six week wait for a stock model yet a mile away I can walk into Tekserve and walk out with the same computer… and apparently even the nearby Apple store has a wait of several days. MacMall, online, will also ship the stock model the same day for next day delivery. It seems Apple has a very odd distribution model.

Another interesting evaluation from the music side of things.

Forbes: Avid Delisting A Potential Shot To The Heart Of The Music Business

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/bobbyowsinski/2014/02/27/major-changes-around-the-corner-for-music-as-avid-delists/

Ironically, Avid is today being traded Over The Counter and has had it’s best showing in years. That could be just bargain hunters looking for a deal, and they could be very well be gone tomorrow, but then again it could very well mean a new birth of sorts.

My own hunch is that some are sensing they’re in the hunt for capital.

    And

A company like this has no business being public in the first place as it’s growth will be capped by the market size sooner or later. A public company is more beholden to its stockholders than its customers, especially when things go bad, which is a bad recipe when it comes to the entertainment industry.

Since they’re not in a position to take themselves private, I think the delisting might be the next best opportunity for them to regain control if someone gives them the financial shot in the arm.

[Bradley Jones] “Avid may not be able to pay all their debts. If that happens, they would have to declare bankruptcy. “

Avid has virtually no debt so they’re in an unusual situation. I keep thinking they’re going to use this to find an angel to give them badly needed R&D money as well as an investor who can provide management skills.

Of course they’re erroneous but, based on what Avid has said about the accounting issues, they won’t have any significant changes in revenue. Of course they’re still introducing new products but unless there’s some surprise changes, they don’t seem to be generating the revenue needed to be profitable.

  • FWIW, MacMall and Tekserve both seem to have reasonable stock on the stock models, same day shipping or walk in and carry out. Tekserve says the BTO are very slow though.

MacMall says 5-7 days on all the BTO systems.

B&H showing 4-6 weeks even on stock models for the last few weeks. All my local Apple Stores show “ship to store” rather than in stock.

Media Composer sales growth hasn’t done anything for them. The level of revenue growth needed from MC is probably unreachable.

This is not just my own supposition. Analysts I’ve read all say they really need to push hardware growth. Smaller hardware (compared to software) growth would yield greater revenue. Bigger profit margin potential and then there’s the service contracts that yields.

[Franz Bieberkopf] “I still don’t really see any conclusive breakdown of hardware vs. software in any of this, though.”

In my followup post I note 30% increase in software but still heavy loses in revenue due to lack of hardware sales. Video Software sales barely make a dent in revenue.
