I really appreciate your response. Yes it’s a bluray. Are the features the same sd and bluray? Also, you mentioned taking the self contained into Adobe. Which program specifically? You mean into a Premiere Pro timeline? Thanks for helping out. A little help can go a long way.

I’m answering my own post. Clearly I’m losing it. I can’t find the corruption in my timeline. It does export out of FCP7 with no issue as a quicktime file. I can’t seem to find a straight answer out there about quality issues with making a quicktime movie first or exporting directly into Compressor. DOES ANYONE KNOW!?!?!?! My old workflow is like this: prores 422 timeline, send to compressor, use the HD 30 minute to DVD5 preset, 2.0 audio, tweek until it’s about 23gb, submit, drag those assets to Toast and dump it in a bluray. Makes gorgeous playback with really few issues ever. Been doing it that way for a few years with fairly long movies, over 2 hours in some cases. Since I can’t get compressor to compress without the “error 0”, i was hoping I could go with the make quicktime movie option and not lose quality. Will there be a quality loss???

Figured it out. Somehow when I saved the project and reopened it, the scale on each of the layers had set to zero. Still trying to get how that happened. Thanks.

That is a good question. I am only working on this main sequence right now. I have no other projects I can load up. What is your suspicion? If there is nothing to turn on or off then I can assume it’s a new software glitch or something went bad on my sequence over night. I thought maybe FCP7 had the dragging feature as a default and maybe I inadvertently shut it off.

That would help right? FCP 7. Have used it since it came out on the same equipment. Equipment is performing great. I tried searches and unless I am wording my parameters incorrectly, I am not finding any solutions. Just can’t move anything around in the timeline. It’s about a 25 minute clip, prores 422 timeline, combination footage and stills with a few songs. I have in fact already burned this and screened it. I just was trying to improve the way it flowed, so I just opened the project the same as I did the day before and this weirdness popped up.

Figured it out. I was looking at the wrong end of the problem. I had it configured the same way I did a few years ago when it worked for me. It was a faulty 800 firewire cable running to my external drive. I think my MBP didn’t know where to send it so it wouldn’t even start. I had just used that cable a week ago with no issue. Sometimes you just have to flip over every rock. Because of this maddening problem, I have started drinking. Cheers.

I’m doing a similar work around to get to your hopeful product. My BluRay’s are 2 to 2 1/2 hours. In a nut shell. I put everything in a Prores 422 timeline, when editing is complete, send it off to Compressor using the HD DVD setting fitting up to 30 minutes on a DVD 5 preset. Grab a Dolby Digital 2.0 audio preset and drag both into the control box. I have to play around with the Inspector to get the GB’s just right. You can’t run it right up to 24GB like you indicated. You need to leave some room to get everything on the disc. 21GB is pretty safe. I don’t think it compensates for menu’s and any extra’s. Go up to “Target” and place your destination and hit submit and let it cook. I have an out of the box 27 iMac and it takes a good 10 hours. Once done, grab those assets and pull it into Toast. Drop it onto “Blu-ray video”. Make sure you deselect encoding. Don’t bother making a nice menu. You won’t succeed. You can however grab a photo and make a menu start page. Remember to select your external drive as it will default to your internal. Cook that bad boy. Mine look and play fantastic.
I see you have an older version of FCP. Mine is the FCP 3 Suite. I think my version is FCP 7 within that suite. I can’t tell you if yours has the same features or not.

Thanks Roger. I have not found anything to make the Griffin replicate the jog/shuttle on the editing keyboard that I have. I really like my Mac keyboard over the clunky one on the editing keyboard not to mention the space savings. The Griffin wheel feels excellent and takes up no space. Too bad I couldn’t make it work. If I find anything out, I’ll pass the info on to you.
