I figured the compilation section out and am burning one in the
other Video-TS section using the Video-TS file I pulled off the project I just burned in DVD Studio Pro. I just kept messing with it until it seemed to work. Story of my life….I hope this works. If it does, I’ll use that file off all the projects I burned using Adobe and archive them for future disasters. Apparently the HP Lightscribe media I was using is junk.
When we talked of the DVD’s that had degraded, I looked for a solution. I found a software and am using it as I type this that can supposedly rescue the files from the corrupt disc. I’ll give you a link in the event it actually works.
The size ranges from a few gig on a DVD 5 to 7 gig on a DVD 9. The blu ray project I just finished in FCP/compressor/toast is 21 gig.

Hi Rafael,
Actually I saw 2 places in toast(Video_TS Folders and Video_TS Compilation) where it allows a Video_TS Folder to be dragged into. I tried both, pretty sure I had the settings right, it just kicked out the blank and gave me a message that it couldn’t burn. I know this application works as I used it to burn my FCP project on blu-ray. It worked excellent and is super simple. Am I on the right track thinking this method will work?? As usual…your time and expertise are appreciated. -
With the Video-TS file from the disc I just burned in FCP, can I make a replica DVD from that file alone? If so, how. I have toast 10 and put it in there but it wouldn’t do anything but eject my blank.

My goal was to get 10 years out of the media. By then, there will be storage mediums we wouldn’t dream of now. I figured I would just copy them over to the newer storage then.
My question: My finished projects will all have a Video TS file. I have 3 external drives. I can save those files for archiving but what is the process for creating a disc from that Video TS file that is of the same quality? I’ve never played with one.

I envy you. I didn’t save those files. I have had store bought movies for over a decade that play excellent still. Why did mine fail so fast??
I have traveled all over the states getting all photographic images, stills, video, even old film reels that pre-date world war 2 from all my relatives. The purpose is to repair, compile in a cohesive manner and distibute, and to document our history before anymore of the elders can’t tell the story. I can’t have this stuff go away after such a short time. My intent is to preserve this history. I even have a safety deposit box where some copies are kept. Am I in eminent danger of having the same catastrophe with my FCP movies?? If so, anyway to maximize longevity?

One word. Success! The COW was working for me the past few days. Just in case anyone followed this thread, here’s what worked. Jeff’s multiple suggestions probably all work, but this one sounded like it made the most sense for me….worked like a charm. Split the tracks where you would best guess the halfway plus mark would be. Point the end jump from the first track to the beginning of the second and drop your break point on it’s head. This particular break(movie chapter) started with a few stills…….you can hardly see the break happen. It’s as smooth as they make em. Tried it in a few different DVD players I have in the house over and over with no issue. Until this method, I couldn’t get a break point to show up in the format, disc volume, drop down for 2 days and a hundred tries. This worked first time. Jeff is my new best friend. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Under the “format” drop down box, only “automatic” appears. If I go to outline, click on the disc, go to inpector to check disc volume, I get automatic, the name of my disc, and upon clicking on the disc, all of my chapter markers show up. Am I checking the disc volume on the format/build drop down for the valid marker?
I have also discovered that you can put up to 85 chapter markers in DVD Studio Pro before it asks you to please don’t do that anymore.
I’m not at the office now, but will check the outline view for the VTS switch. What exactly will that tell me?

I have looked on the net for this answer with some specificity. I’m looking where to place the break point on this Dual Layer. Michael Sacci had an excellent reply to a similar problem on a older thread, but I need clarification. Here’s where I’m unclear. I simply looked at my timeline and calculated about where the split should be considering it’s 6.9 GB and 2 hours, 34 minutes. I see from others having this problem that it might be I’m supposed to find the break point by adding data in the video TS file starting from the top and add downward until I reach that just over halfway point. I have found that vob file with the correct gigs but am unclear what to do with that info. I’ve littered my timeline with additional markers multiple times and did a build and then a format/build to find nothing but the word automatic in the drop down. I am assuming I am to look for the non-grayed out markers in the drop down box on the build/format drop down box. If I click on the disc icon in the outline view and go to the inspector and look for the same info there, I get “automatic” and the name of my disc, when I click on the name of my disc, just about every marker I have shows up there. Can someone enlighten me on these gray areas?

Hi Jeff, thanks for the help. I compressed using Compressor 5.7 average and 7.5 upper, M2v and ac3, But the first 90 minutes plays fine. I think this has something to do with the layer break as it’s specifically at that spot when the problem begins. What do you mean when you say ” the video is in the wrong VOB for the split”?
