It would be easier to help if you posted a screenshot. I find reframing the shot (transform tool) so you blow up the subject and minimize the overexposed b.g. helps. (But blowing up an underexposed subject often calls attention to the lack of detail in an underexposed image). Then increase the exposure levels while keeping highlights under 100 on the scopes. Then bring back some life using the mid tones puck. Try some of the visual effects built into FC. There might be a look there you like. But there is only so much you can do with bad images. Depending on how critical this is you might want to give it to a pro colorist. FC does have a masking tool but it takes practice to get natural looking results. Keep changes subtle and apply feathering.

Yes, I believe its about growing their music business. But the criticism directed at the merger was that the company they bought makes so-so reviewed but PROFITABLE accessories and is not worth the money paid for the music distribution portion as compared too further developing their own. But Michael Jordan was a major variable in Nike’s success. AFAIK he was not a talented shoe designer. He was a brand, an image, a personality. Notice that Apple’s deal included hiring their two key players not just their business. My tax write off line was just saying if their gamble doesn’t work then Apple will survive because they can afford a few huge miscalculations with their excess in liquid capital.

Hey TY, quick question: I have a few of the 4053b and love em.
We also have a few of the Sennheiser ME66/K6 and often have trouble getting results as good.
But outdoors the ATs pick up too much wind noise and we have nice wind protectors that fit the Senns.
The foam protectors that come with the ATs fall off way too easily.
Would this work for outdoor use:
Audio-Technica AT8106 Slip-on Pop Filter (Metal)
Working with students I feel that the wind protectors also help absorb any abuse the mikes might take from students.

I can’t answer your specific questions but I think this is the future of lighting. Kino Flo has a whole set of new LED lights that are made to replace their flours. They do not give the same type of light that their older models do. I do not think they are as flattering to skin tones. And there the soft, not as controlled washes, are at least in the same ballpark. Its like you put a film lens on a DSL and you get beautiful shots but it is not the same as film and never will be. But it is what we have as tools and there are great advantages to the new tech. Arri has a very nice led fresnel as well. You can dial in the temp. It stays cooler burns much less electric. It cost too much and is very heavy and so far LEDs cannot be controlled the way the old lamps can. But the potential to get rid of the stingers save a ton in electricity and the increasing ability to mask and color correct portions of a shot in post means this is the new work flow. For now I have no problems using LEDs to light our CYC but I do need to back the talent even further from the wall because the light scatters everywhere. Love my mole back lights and dramatic effect on faces. Kino Flos are just idiot proof. Everyone looks good. But I’d love a kit of LEDs to take on location. Use whatever power is available and get a set of batteries to run them. I have not heard that any of the new LED Fresnels are as controllable as the old ones. This summer I’m going to go check them out at mole richardson.

I’ve found that keeping your talent as far as possible from the Cyc the more forgiving the b.g. effect becomes.

Bill, can you get the spot to be 30 in diameter from a fixture that is above the road about 25-30 ft up? We have some Lekos mounted about 15 feet up and it can certainly get the look described but not sure what would happen at twice that distance in terms of the diameter. 30 in is a pretty small diameter. Or am I misunderstanding and we are talking about a 30 degree beam spread? Lekos are really good for a spot effect and work great with gobo patterns. Most street lamps produce a pattern of sorts since they are rarely clean.

Make sure that you are matching all inputs and outputs in terms of line or mic level. If there is mismatch, the meters can look fine and yet sound distorted.

I think they are buying the brand/the image/the personalities. While canceling competition in a merging market where Apple would want the hip label. Or maybe its just a tax write off.

Have you played the footage back directly from the camera on a monitor. Maybe the footage is grainy?
