Permission issues can be tricky.

Start with the most parent drive/folder and work your way in at each step applying to all the enclosed. Also repair permissions in disc utility.

Do all this with FC and all apps closed.

Then reboot and see if it will work.

Doing a clean install is a pain but a lot easier than it used to be.

Re-downloading your apps from the app store is pretty painless and gives you the latest of each.

If most things are stored in your documents folder you just drag them all over wholesale. Not the folder itself but the contents. For email save an archive first. Take a screen shot of your mail accounts so you know how to connect to your server again.

Since you should have a clone of your drive you can always take a look at it and reset stuff. When you deal with pro apps its always a good idea to have a clean system and know the steps to start fresh. Its worth the learning curve. Stay backed up/stay organized. I’m a hypocrite and give my self this speech a lot.

You’ve kinda done what I know to try. so what follows is really guess work and I’m hoping a guru steps forward to help you.

Make sure you trashed your trash since FC likes that done when deleting preferences.

make sure you have read write permission for all layers of the folders that contain that library.

this can be set in the get info window. command-I with the largest folder/drive its in highlighted.
be sure to use the gear pull down to select apply to enclosed items. then repeat for each layer of folders that that library is stored in.

Is there enough space on your media drive for this large project?

As you mention it sounds like either a corrupted library or a corruption of a media file.

You certainly want to try each of the backups which are libraries starting with the latest and working backwards. It couldnt be very far back since you know when the problem began.

You can certainly move your original media to a new library by copying it out of the current library and then importing it to a new event in a new library. But I’m not sure how to get your old project into this new structure.

Maybe quit and move the old project into the new library copying how FC organizes these.

You can right click each library to see contents and take screen shot of each so you can fix it if needed.

try both opening from finder and FC.

which version of FCP X are you using?

in the latest version, it’s wherever you assigned it for that library.

if you highlight the library, you’ll see a library properties window in the inspector with buttons that allow you to assign locations for media, cache (like render files) and backups.

by default in the older versions its in the movies folder of your system drive but you could have changed that.

one thing you might try is consolidating all your media which might give a fresh start if you are still having the same problem as when this thread began. that option is also in that library properties window.

Are there any other signs of problems with this account?

User accounts can get corrupted.

I was going to suggest making a new admin account and transfer over what you need.

But if this is the main admin account, you might be better off with a clean install of the OS.

Even any user account getting corrupted kinda points to a clean install being a good idea.

Back up all your important stuff. And make a clone of the current system drive (though this will reproduce any corruption as well). Boot from an external drive with the clone and do a clean install.

If you really want to avoid this, you might try disc warrior.

Another thing you might try first, though it’s a long shot: Highlight the drive you are exporting the stills to. Command-I and look at the permissions at the bottom of the get info window. Does your account have read and write permission? If not, unlock the lock icon and give yourself read write permission. Make sure to “apply to enclosed items”. (found in the little gear icon). Then check the folder you are sending the stills to. Repeat steps.

Well the original debate was whether FCP legacy was professional. Looking back the answer turned out to be that AVID was only for pros cause no one could afford the beast unless they worked at a high-end production facility. FCP took a couple of years but was adopted by pros and its price point changed the industry. FCP X is clearly being used by pros but like legacy rarely in the high-end production facilities. So far.

The other and related aspect of this debate is what is a professional tool.

My take: it’s a tool that gets the job done. Different jobs need different tools. Different folk like different brands.
