In my role as an Agile Coach of s/w dev teams I am always strive to teach people how to fish, and yet so often it seems people just want a fish.

It’s funny that is exactly how I’m perceived here. 😉

I’m really an amateur with Vegas Pro and haven’t invested the appropriate amount of time to learn a lot of the basics.

All too often people have so much more to do to achieve their objective, so when they get bogged down in the detail of a particular aspect of that, they get stuck and panic, especially with a uni assignment deadline a week from Friday, in my case, I find myself just wanting a fish. 🙂

I will invest the time in watching the video you’ve linked me to.

Thank you so much for this. My experience around some of these points is a little sparse, but I’m good with the text moving across using keyframes, but not much experience with the masking stuff. I’ve had a play though with your example, so am getting a better idea of how yours works.

The bigger challenge now is feeding in the rest of the poem line at a time and keeping the speed consistent across all. 😉

I’m on Vegas Pro 13, so there are a lot of templates using transparent to black for example.

The truth is as a writer of fiction that sometimes ends up as short movie, i) I don’t use Vegas Pro very often, and ii) when I had my Sony PD170 I don’t recall having to change these, perhaps because when I imported the footage it just made these changes for me, although my memory may differ from the reality.

Yesterday morning, I changed my View Transforms to Off and that improved things no end, but hadn’t I changed the Pixel Format, the other options being 8 bit or 32 bit floating point (video levels), so I’m assuming the latter, but will have a play around with it.

In short thank you so much for pointing this basic stuff out, and in addition thanks for your guidance re posting images, I hadn’t noticed that option, so will know in future.

It’s interesting as I get older how impatient I find myself getting when I have a deadline and stuff that I perceive should just work doesn’t.

It’s so good that there are more patient folk out there, to not only go and figure out the small details that make a big difference, but also to be sufficiently humble and happy to share it without exacerbating the enquirer’s perception that they are asking a dumb question, so thank you for that.

Hi there,

This is exactly what I was looking for. I use Video Blocks, but live in New Zealand so my cam is only capable of 50i, 50p or 25p. I can appaprently change a setting to do 24p, but it requires reformatting of the memory card, and then it might play on NTSC TV’s, apparently.

I’ve used your process already and it, as you found out, does the trick.
