June 15, 2021 at 2:32 pm in reply to: What is the longest length of HDMI cable I can use for HD live video streaming?I wouldn’t go farther than 50′ on a standard HDMI cable. They make longer ones, but all of the 100′ cables failed on my quite quickly. I also wouldn’t recommend HDMI couplers to extend 2 – 50′ HDMI’s to make a 100′. The cable and the couplers aren’t designed to go that long without assistance and will not work. Couplers are fine for short extensions, like 2 – 6′ HDMIs.
If you need longer than 50′ there are a couple options I’d recommend:
1. Optical HDMI like the Kramer CP-AOCH/XL. Those range from 33′ – 328′. Note that these are directional so you need to connect the source end to the source, display end to the display. This is fiber optic cable, so you have to be careful and not kink it.
2. HDMI over Catx converters. There are a lot of different options out there. I use Liberty AV’s, Crestron, or Extron. Depending on the model, they usually have a range of 70 meters up to 100 meters. You need to use good quality Cat cable. I use shielded Cat6a cable which is overkill, but I can’t risk any dropouts. Cat5e is a minimum, but you may not get the same distance you can with Cat6a.

The USB dongle allows for audio and video into your computer. Just Google “USB video capture” for some examples. I think the only other way to get audio and video into your laptop would be to replace the video card, which seems a little intense.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

You can use Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder for a free encoding software, however, I’ve never used it on a Mac..
As for getting the video into your computer, you may have to purchase some kind of USB video dongle or find a camera with firewire out to go straight in.
Do you know what kind of internet connection you will have? To stream HD video, you should have atleast 1.5Mbps upload speed for 720 and more for 1080.
Also, where do you plan on showing your video? Are you using UStream or JustinTV or something? Or do you have your own webpage?
Another thing to think about is the people viewing the stream. What kind of connection speeds do they have? Will they be viewing it on computers or mobile devices?

I do not have any experience with the Adtec SignEdjes either.
My experience with BrightSign includes:
-3 units(HD1010’s) looping the same video with synchronization.
-3 units with 3 plasmas to create a video wall, synced with ethernet and switcher – synchronization worked extremely well(as it is quite noticeable if a video wall is out of sync).
-1 unit, controlled by Crestron touchpanel to allow user to play a specific video file.
-BrightSign unit controlling projector over RS-232.
Depending on how you want users to interact with your content on the televisions, BrightSign may be a viable option.
[Walter Soyka] “Can they return from a single media cue on one unit at its end into the correct point in a synced multi-unit cue?”
I have not created such a show, and it sounds quite difficult to do using BrightAuthor(BrightSign software)- I don’t see a command that finds the time of the synced units and is able to seek the single unit to the rest. Possibly a custom script could do it, but that is beyond me.Cliff Steinberg

Have you looked at BrightSign? They have cost efficient players that can be synced and respond to external triggers.

October 31, 2012 at 10:06 pm in reply to: Mobile video content not playing on phone.I see what you mean. It played on Firefox and Chrome, but not on iPod Touch. I think iOS devices only look at the first file in the video tag, so maybe it doesn’t play because the .mp4 isn’t listed first?
Or possibly if the video file itself has a resolution greater than 640×360 or some other encoding issue.
For iOS devices, here is a helpful link :

I use an Anycast AWS-G500. There is not a firmware update that will make the Anycast HD. In order to do so I use an HD-SDI Card for the Anycast and the AJA Ki Pro. I have the HD-SDI loop out of the Anycast card and into the AJA- this is only a Program Out recording.
