This happened to me on my Canon XA35. The power was not shut off or battaries changed when filming. It done it to the last MP4 file that was recorded. I had it recording in 30 min increments. I didn’t notice until i pulled it in post that the last file was a .DAT file but it showed it was almost a 4G file so i knew it had to be the last half of my recording. Fortunately i still had it on the sd card. I put it back in the camera it was recorded and corrupted on. I opened the card review section and it showed a ? mark on the corrupted file i double touched it and it showed a recovery option i selected recover and it took a few minutes but it did fix the errors and turned it into the MP4 file it was originally recorded at. I feel very lucky. Before i thought about putting it back in the camera i tried a couple of the free converter software suggested and they did not work. Hope this helps someone.
