As a one man band, who has a Youtube channel focused on West Coast College lacrosse (truly an niche subject) I used to wonder why the best films always had large teams. I think the point is that even with the great cameras, editing software that a one man band can utilize, a team approach where each member has expertise will win. It is that deeper expertise in each area that can produce higher quality.
If I have a second shooter, I get different angles of the sport and more choices in editing. If I have a sound person, I can get higher quality and unique audio.
My modest goal is to reach a million views on Youtube, 815 k at the moment and I find quality translates to views. -
I edit all my H.264 directly in FCPX without converting to prores. I have an I5 mid 11 27 inch iMac, nothing special. It is a big advantage to not have the storage issues accompanying prores although there are work arounds.

I have frequently seen the clip names disappear in the browser and thought maybe I hit the wrong key. That is an irritating bug.

The reason computers became obsolete in the 90’s and early 2000’s was that Moore’s law was in effect and the speed an efficiency of computers was doubling every 18 to 24 months. That is no longer true. Clock speeds have crested around 3 GHz. Parallel processing and other innovations have help progress continue, but no where near the rate of change from earlier. Obviously the computer companies have had to adjust their strategies to this new reality. Memory capacity continues to advance but processing speed not so much. I think this is why Apple is slow to build an new iMac or Mac Pro.
I am still hoping they bring out a real upgrade for the IMac, that will convince me to upgrade from my mid 2011 version.

Brett, I couldn’t agree more. I am also finding the roles and lanes are a great improvement, when it comes time to edit or do a poor man’s mix of the audio. Of course this can be done in other apps, but its addition to X is a big improvement for me.

I really appreciate your help yesterday. Fairly quickly following the document I was able to narrow the problem down to a likely plist problem using the link. From there I must have missed the link to how to trash the appropriate plist files or clicked on the wrong link. Anyway, some combination of Google and Cow got me to a Larry Jordan solution video on trashing the FCPX plist. Amazingly, it has been a couple years, since I have had to do that. -
To answer my own question. I found a 2014 Larry Jordan video on how to trash FCPX preferences. Seems to work.

It appears to be user setting related. I logged in under a new user name and was able to open a project. Apple seems vague on how to reset your user setting for x. In the old days there was a plist file that could be thrown away. How is it done in Sierra.

Thanks. I didn’t move anything in the finder. I used the “copy event” instruction inside of FCPX. Now I believe there is some kind of corruption or problem independent of this in my laptop version of x or the system, because I can’t even import a simple file into x and open a new event.

Update:
The problem appears to be with FCPX on the laptop, not with the event moved. FCPX can’t import anything without getting the missing proxy symptom. So maybe I have to do a clean install of everything. I did trash X and download a fresh copy and I have updated to Sierra, all to no avail.
