The software is included with the switcher, easy to operate. You can operate without genlock – there’s one sync buffer, 2 mixing busses. You get a momentary ‘freeze’ if you try to cut between sources on the same buss, but as long as you alternate everything runs great. We do live i-mag with ours all the time – camera, ppt, video playback. Lots of wipe choices, keys, etc. Most of the time, we just run composite from the cameras. You have one preview output, but 2 program outputs – and you can run component and composite simultaneously.

We use Panasonic MX-70 – it’s reliable, consistent, works really well in a live environment and can be integrated into post with GPI’s…can use a laptop downstream… up to 8 inputs.

Are you interested in purchasing or renting for an event? Purchasing is probably around $300K US. You’d have to check with Barco for exact number… Day rates for rental range around $3500 – $7500 US, depending on location, additional equipment needed, number of days, etc. We’re in the States, but I know there are a number of companies in Europe with the B-10 also, I don’t know their rates.

I have had the video freeze on export before, but it always seemed to happen whenever we tried to work on something else – like opening e-mail, or textedit – while it rendered. We learned to just walk away while it cooked…

Price depends a lot on the brightness you need to fill the size screen you want. We have 4200al projectors that rent for about $400/day. 9×12 screens are about $120, 15×20 are $200 including dress kits. That’s still 4×3. If you want 16×9, that’s just a little bit more.

We also have a mobile LED screen that pops up out of a trailer. But that’s a lot more/day. But it’s incredibly bright and perfect for outdoor.

If you want any additional pricing, here’s our rental info: https://www.multimediafarms.com/html/rent.html

Can you give a little more info on the screen – was it LED? Lcd projection?

Things were a little shaky at m100 there for a while, and we attempted to move to FCP, but we came back. Justin Dorsey has been a terrific sales advisor for us. We’re very happy – with 3 m100 rooms. Thanks, Justin.

We have used Quickbooks for years – intuitive, easy to use.

Ooops. Sorry. No dual boot system. I think we have lost our minds. Strictly Media100 HDX.

We also have an HDE suite that we’re very happy with… The third room is still SD with a G4 dual and a P6000 lossless card. We may upgrade that machine in 6 months or so… but it’s been working great for quite a while, so we’re keeping it a bit longer.

That’s the main consideration at this point. We have a G5 PCI-X machine (we briefly lost our minds and put in FCP in one of our rooms, but most of our employees don’t like it.) So, we’re trying to use the perfectly good G5 and will probably do a dual boot system, keeping the graphic guy, who likes FCP happy as well. I had heard that the scalers in the HDX system were pretty powerful, but that’s all I had heard…

We do have an SDI machine and that’s what we were hoping to use for a/v in & out.
