try ae’s utility profile converter as an adjustment layer. set its output to rec709(0-255 or 16-235) or srgb.1966 16-235. whichever one dropbox uses will soon be apparent. you can trim the layers with diff profile effects so you can see all combos in one render to to save time. -
there is no such thing realistically useful as 14 f-stops in 8 bit(that is why the big boys use 10 bit or higher). Sure, you might get some detail, but unless you’re shooting raw, in color correction, you’re just going to have banding if you try to modify the gamma of the extreme dark/ brights because they get less bits per f stop(up to 800% worse) due to gamma compression. It’s just a marketing gimmick. If you want to play with the big boys, you’ll need to shoot raw.

do you want technical tricks or aesthetic tricks? I’ve accumulated a few, no book though. Honestly, the most experienced mixers have a pro tools background because they have been doing it for 20 years or more. The most common theme is complex, multiple sources to create sounds that don’t sound like something you’ve heard before.
And cleaning, repairing are changing everyday with plugins more and more sophisticated and expensive.
best advice so far, mix to the destination. bluray, web, headphones, dolby 6.1 with a calibrated soundproof studio.some books.

importing only tiff image sequences for rendering would be a huge help in discovering if quicktime is the culprit, especially if the sizes are huge(over 3gb) and it doesn’t crash(your network can handle the size/workload!). It would be a good investment in your valuable time.

render batches? what about a single render of a image sequence with only image sequences in the project box, tiff,psd with no effects. that would eliminate possible codec issues and batch procesess. Some background render modules can causes crashes.
Make the render a little smaller than 2.15gb, then if successful, a little bigger than 2.15gb. We’re trying to get a super basic baseline for crashes by isolating the bare neccessary parts for a working network.
Do any other programs like premiere crash over the network?
try turning off AE’s render multiple frames instantaneously. I’ve heard it can cause occasional issues.

Certain AE plugins cause crashes. do a no 3rd party plugins image sequence with a fresh AE install with render multiple frames off. change power options to high so the computer doesn’t fall asleep.

was there alot of room noise? denoise spectrum analyzer. may possibly need noise gate if your levels are low.
was there alot of reverb from the room?iZotopte de-reverb
sweeten by using a 10 point Parametric EQ. boost the midrange 1125hz. possibly boost 100hz if low.

i would do a clean uninstall of quicktime components and not install 3rd party plugins until you go through a fresh render. AE’s crash report should tell you which frame to help track down the clip causing the error is a good idea too. Here’s adobe’s rundown.

first thoughts,
1. are you using multiple emulated processors? try running on a single proc.
2. also check your processor ios

4. is it fat32? that’s a file size limit. use ntfs or exft

6.switch to nfs from afp network renders because of a 2.15GB limit.
7. check the crash report. os might have a report too.
