As most of the posts in that “other forum” have stated, the price for P2 is still way too high. When the price of two 64 gig cards more approaches/resembles that of a $1695.00 Firestore 160, then Panasonic will have it right. They also have it right that the HMC150 is the bomb right now. Excellent pictures that match seamlessly with my HVX 200, and 16 gig cards that do 90 minutes of HD each for $29.00. You can get 32 gig cards that shoot 3 hours of HD for $59.00. This is the future.

You can edit your 24P shot FS footage in either a 23.98 or 59.94 DVCPROHD Easy Setup FCP project. It won’t matter and will look identical. The question comes as to what you want your output format to be. Shoot QT versus P2 format as well and your editing life will be 50% freer.

Despite all that, what soured me on the whole process was watching the judges do the actual judging. There was NO protocol, NO criteria to follow, and NO scoring sheets. Each year, five years in a row, they’d walk around, spend 30 seconds looking at a print piece, video or website…one judge would dominate the discussion, and like Todd said, their biases would determine the winners and losers. One year, a judge gave a PSA for an AIDS Walk an addy because he said, “I’ve got a soft spot for people with AIDS.” It was a crappy PSA.
Sounds like the selection process for almost all but the best film festivals now!

You just need to become more familiar with how the Firestore saves your data(footage),as you have stated. When recording in QTPn you don’t have a Contents folder or lastclip.txt file. That only happens when you shoot in P2 mode. Your folder with all the clips will have the date, hour and minutes you were at when you started shooting, and all your QT clip files are in that folder. Just drag that folder into FCP [after transferring to your media drive(s)] and start editing. You don’t ever have to worry about the Contents folder, lastclip.txt file OR the Log and Transfer process this way. That is the beauty of the Firestore workflow.

As Wayne said, that message only pops up if you don’t have a Panasonic deck attached. Ignore it. As far as the Easy Setups, you can use either 23.98 or 59.94. Both work fine. and always set your Firestore to capture Quicktime Pn. That way you can drag your clips straight into FCP without having to bother with the Log and Transfer step.

I had a client that did that as well, and depending on the time of day or night we were editing, many times the Color Correction actually reverted back to the clips original color! I also love the clients who want to do special effects as we go, instead of getting the whole story edited in rough cut before making decisions on special effects, titling or other time consuming post production processes. We ended up spending days on sequences we didn’t even use! It was great from an hourly billing standpoint, but the client almost didn’t have enough money to finish the project due to all the “tweaking” up front!

No, it’s just if you have worked with an NLE that does it intuitively and properly, it does seem stupid and backasswards how Apple has it implemented in FCP. It has been a gripe of mine from version 1.0.
