I use SD cards instead of the Sony cards. But yes. I use a card readerand do a log and transfer.

It’s great to hear you are that busy Eric. Especially in an oversaturated underpaying video market.

That’s just a guess on my part that the image may be bad. Typically what I do is log and transfer directly from the card into my FCP project on my internal raid drive and then I’ll image the card on an external drive as a backup. I also hold onto the card for a few days before erasing it but I have 6 cards so that isn’t a big deal for me to do that. I typically like to have the footage in two different locations just to be safe before formatting the card. Your method is fine but I would always double check your backed up files before erasing the sd card.

OK, I see now. I’ve never done off of an image just directly from the card ready. Maybe your image is bad. Have you already erased the SD card?

Eric, I would try restarting it. I just L&T a stage performance on my Macbook Pro and it was less than real time for the transcode to ProRes. I’ve also done some L&T on an older iMac with no problems but that was a shorter set of clips. If your external drive is USB 2.0, that could be the problem. I usually only L&T to the internal drive then use the external as a backup copy later overnight.

Perfect, thanks Charlie! I’ll let you know how it goes. I’m going to do some tests with my current camera next week. It’s a Sony NX5U which has an integrated lens.

Charlie. What lens are you using on your cameras? I need to be able to kick the background out of focus easily. Do you think this lens will do the job? Fujinon XT17sx45BRMK1 17x 4.5mm HD ENG Lens

    Thanks,

Awesome Thanks. I am probably going to go with the new model 790 which hopefully doesn’t have that dead pixel problem. I already use SD cards with my Sony NX5U and only use the higher end 32gig ones. Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks Dan and everyone else. I had my graphics guy make me a mask. For some reason I can’t get Motion to let me track it. I’m just going to do the tracking in FCP by hand. The clips are short and the cameras isn’t constantly moving so it shouldn’t be too hard to manually track with key framing. I hope to get to this tomorrow so I’ll let you know how it turns out.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Awesome! Great to hear. I totally understand trying to figure out the new tech as I just went through the same thing after working strictly in DV for 10+ years. Hope you love the camera as much as I do. Take care.
