Well, holy heck. That did the trick.
MANY thanks to Jeremy Garchow!! You are my hero.
The final trick laid out here:
Send to Compressor
Retiming (under the General tab) set to 100%
Frame Rate (under Video tab… as the rest are) set to 23.976
Resize Filter at default
Retiming Quality set to Fast (Nearest Frame)
Compress away…
Lay the video file into a 23.98 FCPX Project
Lay in the audio and VIOLA! No audio drift, no ghosts.Onward!

Not changing the size but the pull down is active and it seems like you have to make a choice.
I’ll leave it at “Nearest Pixel” (the default option).Thanks! I’ll let you know!

Wait. That seems counter-intuitive.
It’s certainly worth a try… but also… which one? The resize filter? Or the Retiming? Or both? -
Duh. It is an option on the “general” panel… It was under the “video” panel.
It works. Thank god.
BUT. of course.
I’m getting an insane amount of “ghosting” in the image on occasion (see attached).
I’ve set the resize and the retiming filters both to “best”.Anyone got any ideas how to fix this issue?

Sorry n00b to Compressor.
When you say “keeping the length to 100%” is that a setting (if so, I’m having trouble finding it). Or do you just mean to not alter the length in the Compressor timeline/window display?
And since I’m here, yes, I have all the audio stems as separate files.
Also, just for fun and if I can’t make the first option work, did not follow the second option: “running a frame to frame conversion”.

Not sure what you mean? You mean post a screenshot without the TV5.mov loaded into the AEP?

Sorry to be thick. But, as you can see, this is what I get when I twirl open the footage layer.
It’s not helping me re-link the tracker to the actual footage.
I was in the layer view as that’s the only place I can get actual trackers up where I can see them.
More info:
My Comp1 layer is just a solid black rectangle I’m tracking to the screen behind her. So I tracked on the TV5.mov layer (which was the file I had to re-link.) Just stumbling around I found that if I used the Motion Source drop down and select my TV5.mov layer I at least get my original track on the first frame up. But when I advance it quickly goes off the rails.
I’m sure I’m being goofy here and missing something super basic so thanks for everyone’s patience.

Sorry, no, I found it… even put it back in the place it once was.
I’ll try to be clearer. I can relink the original file, no problem. All the tracking information seems to be there, but no longer attached to the file (even though it’s the exact same file/data.) Wondering if there’s a way to relink the tracker.
Even more info:
I used perspective corner pin to track a screen in this particular footage.
The first track info seems to be there, but not the rest of the tracking.Here’s a screenshot for a bit further info… as you can see the tracking info is in the upper right hand corner.

Ah. Many thanks, but remember, noob here… some further clarification if you don’t mind…
1. Do I add this to the typewriter effect preset? Or do this INSTEAD of the preset?
2. Which of the elements to I attach the expression to? In other words, which stopwatch do I open to write the expression?
3. Are these two separate expressions or one?
Meaning is this all typed on the same line?
“fadeDur = 1.5; ease(time,inPoint,inPoint+fadeDur,0,100)”
Or separate like: “fadeDur = 1.5”;
“ease(time,inPoint,inPoint+fadeDur,0,100)”Thanks for your patience and help!
