    Thanks everyone.

I did a combination of Declan’s and Spencer’s methods, plus a little more tweaking. This is what I have.

Still far from perfect, we’ll see what the client thinks, though I’m not too thrilled about it. The trees on the right as well as the far trees are a bit too lost for me.

The beginner questions keep coming (I got a bunch of them)

What would be the difference between using a broadcast monitor and a properly calibrated LCD TV, from say Best Buy or something.

    Thank you for the replies.

Judging by my workflow, it doesn’t have much affect other than being able to use it as a client monitor. Through my tenure here I’ve only dealt with importing and exporting digitally, never had to touch a tape.

I occasionally have this problem when trying to get a proper image on my monitor. Reminds me of VCR days when I was a kid and I had to adjust the tracking.

The problem is on and off, and sometimes much worse than the image posted here. The card is connected to the KL Box, which is connected to the beta deck and that goes out to the monitor. Could it possibly be the deck? Since I don’t use it, can I just bypass the deck and go from the box directly to the monitor?

    Thanks again.

I’m also experiencing this same problem right now. Preserve Resolution is not checked.

I (the guy who started the thread) ended up getting an enclosure from Macsales, the Mercury Elite AL-Pro. Although it has been recommended by many, lo and behold, less than a month later…it doesn’t turn on. At all. For about 2 weeks it would randomly disconnect from my computer and then one day, it disconnected, and never came back on.

I have to return it back to them and since I am not in the US, I have to pay for the shipping back to them.

Again, I have heard good things but based on my experience i cannot recommend their products. I do however, appreciate their customer service, very nice people indeed. Their online chat is composed of people who actually talk like humans unlike robots from other companies.

Just a heads up to anybody looking for a hard drive.

    Thanks Dave.

I tired each one of your suggestions to no avail. I even took that video clip from the Scratch folder and exported it out as a ProRes 422 file but that file still acted wonky. I’m going to try recapturing the clip again and hopefully that fixes it. It only happens with that particular clip, so maybe something happened on the capture. Thanks for your help though, much appreciated.

All the video clips are DV/DVCPRO – NTSC.

    Thanks Dave!

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys.

I think what I’m going to do for now is get 2 OWC enclosures and fill it with a 1TB a WD Cavier Black to work off of and a 500GB to back up to.

For backing up, I’m thinking that all you really need to back up are the miniscule project files, my small amount of stock footage, and t the original footage straight off the cards. You don’t really need to back up the captured/transferred footage because you can always just capture/transfer it again, no?

    Thanks Andy,

After reading some articles and browsing through the Creative Cow forums, Caldigit seems to get a lot of praise. I might have to look further into that Caldigit AV Drive.

I was also recommended to look into getting an enclosure and filling it with my own hard drive. So far, I’ve come up with the OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro enclosure and a 1TB WD Cavier Black.

    Thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the help guys.

So I looked into some enclosures and hard drives. Unless someone says otherwise, the OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro looks like a good enclosure and I have some trust in them since that’s where I got my RAM and so far so good.

I was thinking of filling it with a WD Cavier Black from Canada Computers:

So that could be an option as well. On the other hand, looking through the forums, Caldigit has gotten a lot of praise for their products. I emailed some of their online suppliers for prices 🙂

    Thanks guys.
