Hiya,
Sorry for not replying sooner – I just wanted to make sure we had everything in place 😉
Ok, it’s official – the Element panels start shipping next week 🙂
The first ones are coming out of production as I type this. I’ve spent the last couple of days checking and setting up production (that’s why I held off replying to this post).
There will be a more official announcement made on our website (hopefully today), so keep checking back there for more details about what supports them and where to buy them.
Thanks for being patient with us, I’m sure it will have been worth the wait 😉
Cheers,
Chris

Hi,
We’re still hoping to start shipping Element in January. There’s no reason for the delays now other than getting parts out of our suppliers! We are beating them up daily to get everything in place. Having said that, we’re only waiting on a few of the plastic parts. Things like metalwork, electronic circuit boards, displays, packaging are starting to come through or are already at our factory.
In terms of support for Element in Resolve, we are still talking to Black Magic Design about this. I know they have been incredibly busy providing feature updates to Resolve – you only have to look at the incredible number of features / updates they’ve added in the last few months to know how hard they have been at work. Add to that the fact that they’ve now added a Windows version! Yes, having a physical user interface is important to the grading process (and let’s not forget they support a few already), but features / updates on the software are perhaps more important. With out the software there is no reason for panels 🙂

Hi,
What appears on the displays on Wave is down to the application. I am not that Resolve displays the values of a control. Maybe someone from BMD will clarify that.

Hi Paul,
It looks unlikely that we’ll start shipping Element before the end of the year. We’ve been holding off making any official announcements until we have an actual date, which at the moment looks like sometime towards the end of January.
As explained at IBC, the panels shown there were pre-production prototypes. As such there were a few things we wanted to improve:
1) Smoother feel to the knobs. They work just fine, but felt a little “gritty” sometimes as you turned them. The design shown at IBC has been improved in this respect and we’ve also changed it to make production easier.
2) Improved trackerball response. We’ve adjusted the laser pick-ups so as to improve how they track the balls.
3) The paint finish has been given a “softer” feel. The panels remain the same size, shape and layout as shown at IBC.
The changes I’ve detailed above have just taken longer than we expected which has delayed production. We could have gone ahead and released what we showed at IBC, but we felt the additional improvements were worth the effort and wait.
In the meantime, it’s given us a chance to collect further testing data from the people lucky enough to get their hands on a set for beta testing. So far so good 🙂 The only complaint so far has been people having to wait a little longer to buy a set 🙂
Once we know firm shipping dates we will be posting on our website.
In the meantime if anyone has any questions please feel free to contact us – we’re always happy to hear from people.
Cheers,
Chris

I’ve been kicking this idea around for sometime (pun intended). It was one of the “features” I thought about adding to the Element panel range. I just wasn’t sure if enough people would be interested in it.
“Thought” control is on the list too – but that may take awhile 😉

Hi,
What we’re showing at IBC are pre-production prototypes so we’re pretty much near shipping. We’re just shaking out the last few issues before we press the “Go” button.
You can expect Element to start shipping before the end of this year.
Cheers,
Chris

Just to make it clear – Wave is NOT being phased out. Neither is the CP200.
Element is a new product that will be sold along side our other products.
