Based on everything I have heard and seen so far, I think this is correct.
My next question is, what can I do about it? Or, do I just have to wait for Apple to fix it?

I use QuickTime conversion for two reasons:
– to compress the movies size for web use
– to resize the film
Are there better ways to do this?
BTW, thanks everyone for all of the help. I really do appreciate it.

Does that mean my export of the film (not just the stills) will be blotchy as well?
This is a nightmare.
Is there a better way to work with DVCPro HD and FCP?
-
My normal way was simply having the payhead over the frame in the timeline that I wanted to export.
I then select file – export – quicktime conversion then choose still image.
I did this hundreds of times in the past and it always worked – unitl 6.02
For some reason, Arnie’s method works, but I’m wondering why. Especially, why my “normal” way stopped working.
I haven’t tried exporting a movie with quicktime conversion yet, but I suspect I am going to run into the same issue with blotchy looking compression.

Arnie,
I tried your first suggestion, making a still frame and exporting from there and it worked perfectly.
Any idea, why this works and why the normal way doesn’t?

Tom,
First, thank you so much for taking the time to try and solve this with me.
Take a look at these two pictures:

In the first picture, you can see my sequence settings and you can also see the quality of the image.

In the second picture, all I have done, is opened the file – export – using quicktime conversion window (I haven’t even selected anything yet, and you can see the image quality in the canvas has deteriorated and gotten blotchy.
Any thoughts? What else can I tell you that might be helpful?

I deleted all the render files.
I then did a still image export. All blotchy.
I rerendered the timeline.
I then did a still image export. All blotchy.

Obviously, I would love to find the real solution to this problem.
In the meantime, is there another way to get a still image out without using quicktime conversion?

This is happening with all of my footage.
Even stuff I shot with mini-dv 4 years ago.
Any project I open, when I go to export it with QuickTime Coversion, it instantly gets blotchy.

Can you explain this in a little more detail:
“Can you open the captured quicktime file in QT player and export a still from there?”
