Having witnessed a lot of Apple-related Internet freak-outs over the last decade, odds are a year from now this won’t even be seen as having been a big deal for Final Cut Pro itself. Realistically, a lot of editors and particularly facilities wait six months or a year before deploying new versions of software anyway. If Apple fills the important feature gaps before that, not many people are actually going to say “Well, sure FCP X looks like a good solution now, but I’m going with something else because I vaguely remember that the handled the rollout badly last year”.
A few will actually be pissed off enough leave the platform. More will join the platform over the coming yeas, as a consequence of Apple now having the most modern rendering engine and user interface of any of the major players.

That you’d prefer to work with those projects as you left them in FCP 7, instead of having them imported with a bunch of screwy changes into FCP X. Which would be inevitable almost regardless of how much effort Apple put into opening old projects, given the differences in the way the timeline works and all the rendering differences that would exist because of the new rendering engine.

I am stating Apple has an intent to add these features because several people who are very unlikely to be lying, and who, based on their past statements and their reputations there is reason to believe Apple talks to, say that Apple has told them this.
This might not meet whatever specific version of a “fact” David is using, but it’s a lot more solid than the theory that Apple will never add these features because Apple no longer cares about professional users.

That would be fine if everyone where taking an entirely neutral wait-and-see attitude toward Apple’s intentions for the product. But that’s not the case. In a world where a large number of people are advancing a particular theory about Apple’s intentions, what Apple is saying about those intentions to reliable sources should not simply be ignored because it disagrees with that theory.

Sure. You’re playing FUD games with respect to information given by Apple directly to several independent sources, and trying to defend this action by acting condescending toward me for pointing it out. It’s all crystal clear.

[Geoff Dills] “For the life of me I can’t get this to work, so I decided to see how easy it would be to do it manually. So I popped the video and audio to the timeline with sync fairly close. Then after trying it the old way: listen, stop, adjust, rinse and repeat, I discovered I could just let the timeline play and move the video track forward and backward relative to my separate audio track below using the comma/period combo. When the audio stopped echoing I had sync. Very easy.
“You can also create a new compound clip in the browser (see the File menu) and sync audio/video clips there. This is what the auto-sync feature does. It’s sort of like creating a merged clip in FCP 7, except you can open compound clips and edit them like sequences. (Which is something I was always really annoyed you couldn’t do with merged clips in 7.)

Just so I’m sure I have your argument straight: your claim is that is it more reasonable to believe at this time that Apple does not intend to add these features than that Apple does, because Apple’s statements to (several) media outlets about this subject may be false?

How are we doing this now in FCP X ?”
Use the ‘insert gap’ command (option-W). Gaps work like clips, so you can just drag the gap out to the length you want, or as noted above hit control-D and enter your desired duration. You can then perform overwrite edits within the gap. When you’re done, just select any remaining gap and hit the delete key. (Deletes always ripple in FCP X. If you want the equivalent of a non-ripple delete, it’s ‘Replace With Gap’, which is assigned to forward delete.)

Pogue explicitly said he talked to “product managers”. Anyway, this is just another way of saying “Apple is lying”. Which is possible, but not very likely.

You’re simply grasping at straws here, to create doubt about information that doesn’t support a particular narrative. Meanwhile, everything piece of information that does support that narrative has an obvious alternative interpretation.
