Just re-read your response. The part about “are the specs I have correct”. I will call Adtec. The reason I say 16 bit won’t work is because the files I have tried to air with 16 bit audio play video with no sound. I change the setting to 8 bit and they play fine. If there is a setting we can tweak in the hardware, I don’t know about it, but will check.

Thanks for making me step back from this a bit and think. I don’t have much hope yet, but will try!

Now you are feeling my pain! This is a small, independent cable provider in SE North Carolina. I came down to head up a Commercial Production dept… and live by the beach. The beach part is going well!

This crap gear that airs the local origination content is by Adtec. I’d love them to update these specs from mpeg2 to H.264 and 16 bit audio. My life would be much easier. Until then, I’m trying to streamline the workflow as much as possible, but there are soooo many limitations (and of course, progress is really making us obsolete). If I didn’t have my own editing and VFX software, I’d be posting spots on a Video Toaster… yeah.

Sorry if I sound a touch bitter, this subject wears me out! Thanks for the reply though!

I talked to Adobe support. As of now there is no way to change the audio sample size. I filled out a Feature Request… let’s hope!

May 6, 2011 at 6:24 pm in reply to: SynthEyes into AE problem…

Hello! Have you ever found a solution to this? I have had the same issue for a while & found no solution. I have tried telling Synth Eyes what the aspect ratio is, let Syntheyes choose, nothing works. I contacted Russ (Syntheyes creator) and he said many other people are making it work just fine.

I think it’s an AE 7 issue. I used to use Synth Eyes with AE and it worked. Not anymore!

I did find people on the Syntheyes forums who have the same issue and export their tracks to a 3D app, then send the camera from there to AE. I am doing that through Blender, but it isn’t perfect. Have wasted 2 days on this!

August 4, 2010 at 2:42 pm in reply to: Launching FCP without media

The footage isn’t, just the music. I imported it from a CD. If the CD is out, FCP can’t find the media. I’m used to Avid which copies the file to your media drives when you import. Ooops!

I trashed prefs using Larry Jordan’s instructions. All seems to be back in order. I have cut the old music file and imported a copy from my job folder. Can you launch FCP and have it not link to it’s media?

I thought you could, but I may be confused with AE.

February 1, 2010 at 11:28 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro Studio quits on new install on laptop

Sorry to bring this back, but I just got a system at work. I worked for 5 days before the IT guy could network my machine. Today he did. Now I’m logging in as another user on our network and Final Cut (on the network side) won’t launch.

It will still launch if I log on to the computer (not through the network). Is this maybe the same issue you are describing?

December 4, 2009 at 1:46 pm in reply to: AE crashes on startup

This original question is pretty old. I am now on an 8 core Mac Pro, still running Leopard (not Snow Leopard). I am running CS4 problem free. I am also running it on a Quad core Mac Pro with Snow Leopard. I use that one less, but have had no issues there either.

A co-worker has an 8 core Mac pro with Snow Leopard and CS4. He says AE crashes a lot on that system. Not on startup, but after working a bit. Not sure what to make of the varied results.

Anyone know of any maintenance or clean-up that will help? How do you trash prefs on a Mac?

October 5, 2009 at 2:38 pm in reply to: Work offer from India?

I did not end up working with them. (they wanted me to composite photos for them) I asked for some details like final delivery format and resolution, they got some answers back to me and were working on others when the trail went cold. I figured one of their other inquiries took the job first.

I see you are in Mumbai. Do you know of them? The work seemed cool. the approach was just different enough that it seemed off.

September 1, 2009 at 6:07 pm in reply to: Snow Leopard – FCP3?

Since they’re both Apple, I’d think FC3 should be optimized for Snow Leopard. I should have mine soon. I’ll post any findings.
