Thank you. Things are going along ok after I decreased the psd dimensions, and later rebooted. But to avoid future problems, I checked and see that the project size is only 1.1 MB. The psds are rgb, except for the logo bug. When I read your post I discovered that the psd for the logo bug was cymk. The logo bug file size is less than 1MB, so I don’t know if the cymk would make a difference with such a small file size. I changed it to rgb to be safe.

Thank you. This is first time I’ve encountered the green thing with fcp. I booted onto my other hard drive which is a duplicate of all the apps I have on the first one.
Now I have no green screens when working on this hard drive. (But from fcp it won’t see my external apps for some reason) Rendering time is more reasonable now – kinda like the usual slow I’d expect.
For safety, I decided to move off some of the media and old projects not related to my current project, so that I have more free space on the RAID. Early this morning I started copying over an approx. 295 GB folder. The progress bar estimated 8 hours I think. About 4 hours ago the progress indicated 124 GB to go.
But now it’s 7 hrs. and still it say 4 hours, 124 GB to go. I hope I don’t get stuck with not being able to move any unneeded media off this drive. Or…….I hope I don’t later get a message that it was not able to complete the operation because not enough memory. I’m on my way out for awhile. If I get back in 4 hours and have the same progress message, maybe I’ll have to abandon the attempt and reboot, ugh.

I changed the dimensions on those clips now. I’m tried another test render of a clip that does not even involve those bigger psd files in the render request. Again, after about 20 minutes of render progress, it ended with the message “error – out of memory”.
Now, when I click on the jpg or psd files to open them in the viewer, I get a blank green screen instead of the image. This is only happening on the files where I changed the dimensions in photoshop and roundtripped back to the TL.

Thank you. I deleted all the render files. Now, as a test, I’m trying to render just one 45 sec. clip – part of the clip that has the logo bug. The progress bar is telling me it will take 2 hours.
I have a couple photoshiip files I recently imported. They are probably way too big, so I’ll decrease the psd dpi to 150 instead of 300 dpi and re-import, in case that has anything to do with this. However, I’m not even trying to render those clips now, I’m simply trying to render the logo bug. Should I take the big psd files off the TL? Any other suggestions?
Should I have re-booted. Prior to my first post on this, I had done a DiskWarrior directory defray.

It probably sounds worse than it is as far as giving minimal info. The way it happened was that I’m now editing his (2nd party) GoPro clips, as described in my other posts. We are in the very early stages and I don’t even know yet what kind of working relationship might develop.
He told me that in about 4 months he’ll be shooting his own footage using a Sony FCB-EX 980. I don’t even know if I’ll get the job. But in case he wants me to do some editing for him later, I wanted to scope out what might be required, especially because I’m evaluating when & how to move into a better editing system So, I asked him for info about the Camera, format, etc. etc.that he’ll be using in about 4 months. That’s when he told me 1080p and that he’d give me a sample. This is all just preliminary at this point.

I agree, but I’m not buying the camera. This is a potential client who will shoot with that camera. I believe it’s the cam body hooked up to other stuff. Part of it is an analog interface. All is know at this point about the footage is that it’s 1080p. I’ll see what kind of sample he gives me.
I’ve been studying used mac offers. I’m wondering if the one with the below specs would allow me to boot onto one of the 4 drives and run fcp x on it (if I decide to get fcpx), and put my old OS X.4.11 and fcp 6 on the other boot drive to use for older projects.
I can’t buy immediately, but hopefully in a couple months or so. See specs below for what I’m thinking would serve my dual purpose. Would it be worth paying $2,119 for a 2009 mack with these specs?

Thank you for the info on that issue. I checked with OWC. They said that if the computer has their ssd, it’s ok – it does not have the Trim problem. If it’s their ssd, the specs will list Mercury Extreme Pro.

As we speak, I’m asking the potential client. So far, he said it’s a 1080p camera. He’s going to shoot a sample clip for me to look at.

Ha, Ha, the guppy comparison is well taken. However, I’m a bit stuck because I’m working on things that were started on this old guppy long ago, and the client returned for editing on the same project. Meantime, when new work comes in I can’t wait until I have totally upgraded hardware, software, and learn fcp x, or whatever. I know I need to make that leap, but I have to have the right window of time and enough $ and work to make it worth the investment.

Thank you. That helps. I didn’t shoot the footage, it’s actually passed on 3rd hand. I haven’t shot with the GoPro, so I’m not used to dealing with this. I really appreciate your help.
