What you are trying to do is called rotoscoping.

My best advice: just google it. (or bing it, I suppose, if you’re one of those)

Copy the position of the shape to the position of the light. You can just leave it like that if you don’t plan to move your shapes, if you do, however, delete the keyframes and parent the light to the shape layer you want to attach it to. Repeat that for all the lights. With just 4, that won’t take long at all.

If it messes up, you might want to make your shape layers 3D.

Audio isn’t really my Forte, so I really don’t know what you need to understand to solve this problem. I just put the same .wav file in two different comps with different frame rates and they both played fine. I’m not sure why yours are messing up like that.

A couple of things you might try. The simplest is to put your audio files in a comp with the correct frame rate, then put that comp in your main comp (I’m not sure if that will work since I can’t test it because my audio works fine). That’s more of a workaround, so you could re-transcode your audio into a .wav(or something else) because somehow a frame rate got included in your audio, even though I don’t know if that’s possible. If neither of those work, I would try asking your question in a different forum with more audio people. Maybe Audio Professionals.

Tudor has a great point and that may solve your problem. However, you may want to consider what kind of light you are using. Only Parallel and Spot lights have point of interests.

Im unsure what exactly you are trying to do because I don’t fully understand the description of your scene and how you are moving your lights. I have never found lights to be too difficult, I simply move them where they need to be and if they have a point of interest, just move it after the light is where it needs to be. The position of Parallel lights makes no difference, only the angle because it’s kind of a sun-like thing where the lights simply goes in that direction, it doesn’t have a source.

If you would like more specific help, include a picture or two of what you are trying to do.

Without some more information, it’s impossible to tell what the actual problem is. Generally most problems in AE are solved by trying things until you figure out what is causing the problem. Here are some things I would suggest trying. Right click on your files in the Project window and look at your Interpret Footage settings. I don’t know anything for .wav files that might be messed up there, but just try it. Also try changing your comp frame rate. Maybe try creating a new comp with one of your audio files and see what kind of comp it makes(drag your file to the “create new comp” button, or right click on it and choose “New comp from selection”).

As a side note (and maybe a solution if none of those work) you can use Mp3’s in AE. I use them all the time and have no problems (used to be CS5.5, but now I use CS6). As far as I know there are no issues with it, AE pretty much accepts anything.

You didn’t actually attach the picture, so I don’t actually know what you mean by chunky.

However, in the Advanced tab of the Composition Settings, there is a setting for the number of motion blur samples per frame. Try increasing that and see if it turns out any better.

If the camera in your scene doesn’t move, just pans, tilts, and shakes, I would just find a single point to track, apply the track to a null and parent the fire and a track matte to the null.

If you can get a fake knife with a retractable blade, that would probably be easy. Then you could just add a little blood splatter in post (depending on how gory you want it). Maybe rig something to the other side of his neck to explode some fake blood if you want to do it in camera. Or you could just have the guy stab next to the guy’s neck and use a longer lens. Keep it as simple as possible.

In big feature films, they probably don’t have a real knife, just a knife handle and they CG the blade and the neck and the blood.

Try using the Simple Choker effect.

  • A precomp comes from pre-composing. It’s under Layer>Pre-Compose. It takes the selected layer(s) and puts them in a new comp and puts that comp in the current comp. Shortcut is ctrl(or cmd)+Shift+C. Just try it with various layers to understand how it works. It’s an extremely important tool in AE.
