Thanks again for your time David. I am going to try to stay in Premiere as you suggest. As you also mentioned it’s nice to do it in real time for to get it to match up with the music. I will give it a whirl and see how it works. I haven’t used many effects in Premier but it will be good to learn. This is going to be a sports video with the same music. Usually I try to throw a few effects done in AE to make it more interesting and them some slow motion but I thought this effect would be something different from what I’ve done in the past. Always trying to come up with something a little different then the last one.

    Thanks, Chris- MN

    Thanks for the reply David

The person that created this said they used Sony Vegas. I’m not familiar with that but I assumed that it was like Premiere and there were just some presets that they added. It also seemed like AE wasn’t as good a choice as Premiere as far as a 3 min project. It just seems that most things done in AE are short effects clips. I’ll probaly try to do the effects in AE in segments and import back to Premiere or should I just do the whole thing in AE?

    Thanks again for the help

I finally figured it out. I used the write on effect and painted white on black. I put that layer above the layer I wanted to reveal and set that layers transfer mode to luma matte. The only question I still have is how to create new brushes and save them in the brush pallette? I want to create one that has more of a paint brush feel.

    Thanks for your responses

sorry, I’m just not sure how to create the brush strokes. I just can’t figure out how to animate the brush and reveal the layer underneath. Basically I would start with a black layer and paint on white and use the layer as a track matte right? But how do I animate the brush and in what mode do I do it. Write on? Paint brush?

    Thanks for your help

Everything works as you had me set it up but the bottom video layer is always visible. Is there anyway to keep from seeing this until I get through the text layer?

Sorry I didn’t explain it well enough. I knew what I wanted just not exactly how to explain or do it. I’ll give it a try and see how it comes out. Hey, thanks for your time… much appreciated. Chris

thanks for the reply Dave… I need to fly through the text (which will be showing the video inside the text) and reveal the whole video. I thought that the text should be transparent and set in 3d space ahead of the video and then fly through the text. I just can’t figure out how. thanks, chris

They nice thing about doing it in Premiere is that I can change the speed to whatever I need and be able to adjust the timing with the music. I assume this is a flaw with Premiere then?
