    ….. I see — theres also …..

    1 – duplicate comp
2 – hide ( or delete ) elements you want to keep moving in bottom comp and freeze bottom comp
3 – hide ( or delete ) elements you want to freeze in top layer

——————— think this should do it ( ? ) — but if not sounds like you have it covered anyway ?

    Hi Walter

    — if I understand correctly I think you can do this by duplicating the layer – freeze the bottom layer – then mask the top layer so that it shows desired area only

    — Hi Tom — this might be worth a try if you havent already given it a go…. possibly its an answer .. not sure…

I once did a tricky shot, with some similarities, on Flint where there is a ‘buy and sell’ function

…….you load 3 clips – foreground, matte and background and you can paint the matte frame by frame and it reveals the bottom clip through the top clip……

Whats good about this is that the bottom clip can be the same as the top clip only you slip it a frame or two so that it you ‘paint out’ things with the same clip .

You can do this in a number of passes as well so that if a bit isnt quite right the first time round you can render and get it on a second pass……..the trick is to be fairly accurate with the matting, use a soft edge and dont slip the fill too much or you will see it.

——– an AE version of this might be worth a try ( ? ) though not sure if the camera move is too much for this —

Thanks Dan for the follow up — again most useful.

Also thanks Dave for your frank and informative comments ……. this is pretty much what I thought was happening —

Its a complete puzzle to me why CS6 wasnt developed – I thought it was a real game-changer when I first saw it

    — once again thankyou both – will checkout the trial and see how it goes

Hi Dan – thanks for this—- very useful.

—– a bit puzzled by the 30 day thing though — if its not stored on the cloud why cant you open it ? — and if Ae cc somehow just wont do it am wondering if you could open it anyway with the cs6 version you had before you upgraded ??

    — also wondering what would happen if you used it for a while a did 10 projects ( say ) – cancelled and then went back to these using your cs6 version — do you know if it would open them please ??

———— also am going to check out those C4D tutorials : ) —- cheers
