    Thanks Zane,
I did find my files in spotlight. So all is not lost.
And sorry for the confusion on where I posted this question, I wasn’t aware I had tagged onto the other thread. I was just reading the other questions to see if it was the same problem.
I will be more careful next time.

    Thanks again,
    Chris

I loaded my start up Hard Drive (500 gb) past 90% full last night while downloading music files to sample for a video project.

When I tried to start up my MAC OS X today the desktop did appear as normal, but it would not read my external drives. So I tried shutting down the system but the MAC would not shut down, it cleared the desktop but would not power off, so I powered it off.

When I restarted the MAC the desktop was completely reset back to empty as the day it was purchased . It had none of my files on it
(I know never keep files on the desktop).
But I have been shifting things around so much lately trying to find more space that projects ended up on the desktop.

Please tell me how I can recover my projects. I know they are still in there because the Hard Drive still reads full, 18.96 gb left.

I edit video on my MAC in FCP. I have a camera man who captured his footage to his PC in Adobe Premiere. He shot in 16:9.
I am editing my footage in 4:3 for television broadcast. What is the best way to convert his 16:9 footage from Premiere into Quicktime files for importing into my MAC and FCP and 4:3 aspect ratio?

Thanks, after trying several options in MPEG Stream Clip, I finally decided on the EXPORT as MPEG 4 File. There are several settings on this menu I am not sure about. I chose H.264 Compressor, Quality 100%, and 29.97 fps to match the original source. It did convert over to Quicktime, and from there I was able to save it as a Quicktime movie. Then import into FCP.

Whew! Thank you, I never would have gotten this far without your help. I was trying to find the video tutorial for MPEG Stream Clip. I was directed to MAC House but couldn’t access any tutorials there. It looks like that site hasn’t been updated since last year. I did find some tutorials on YouTube but they were very brief and some fuzzy, hard to read.

Any other suggestions on tutorials for MPEG Stream Clip?
Thanks again for your good ideas.

I’m sorry, Rich, Cinematize and DVDxDV doesn’t mean anything to me. Are these other formats or other software downloads that I need to use?
    Thanks for responding.
