    I ran into the same thing with my HF10. I simply eject and then pull the USB cable. Once it is disconnected I get control of the camera back.

  • Just got my HF10 today here is what worked for me.

    1.) Camera must be plugged in, battery power won’t work for transfer.
    2.) Connect via USB.
    3.) Turn Camera to video playback mode.
    4.) Power Camera on with LCD screen open.
    5.) Select Connect to PC/Printer. (This should mount the camera onto your desktop.)
    6.) Under file in FCP, select Log and Transfer.
    7.) Drag clips from list in upper left to the area in the lower left.
