Thanks Adam. I got this to work. I have never used the Point Cache deformer before or never knew about since it’s in the Character menu in R13, something I don’t frequent.

The basic workflow. For each different PLA state duplicate the object and have only that single keyframe. Attach a point cache tag to each of those objects and bake the cache. This will bake then single state through all the keyframes. Then on the object I want to deform you can apply multiple Point Cache deformers to it each link to a separete point cache. This method allows the point cache’s to blend into each other as seen in the image attached.

Why not use a single morph tag? The way the morph deformer is setup in R13, which is really silly, is the morph targets are directly linked to the morph tag. Even having multiple morph deformers, and changing a target on on of them will update to use the same target on all the other deformers. So quite useless hence why I was attempting to have multiple tags and multiple deformers. And like I said, even though somewhat working, has limitations and issues.

I know this is an old post, but for those with the same issue and finding this post…

The solution is to bump the comp up to 32bpc. 16bpc has the same issue as 8, but it went away at 32 for me. I’m running CS3, so maybe it went away in CS4.

February 6, 2010 at 1:44 am in reply to: Corner Pin with Scaling into layer

Thanks for the tip. I’m Mastering at HD (1080p). I tried the technique and found out from the camera zoom in I would need about 3 times the resolution, so I sent a scaled up video file (5760 x 3240) to Mocha and then used that corner pin data on a solid of the same size. Then scaling the footage down by 33.33 % to match the 1080p footage it had just the right resolution for the camera zoom in.

The only thing with this method… tracking footage that size can be a real time killer.

The issue I have is a 3D comp with close to a hundred keyframes, and it’s super difficult to adjust the bezier curves in the different 3D views in AE. Would take a long time, though it’s possible, it would be great if there was a “spatial” easing script out there. I did find this script, but it seems to be only a “temporal” ease.

Yes, thanks for that post, it is the Boomerang effect that I am dealing with here. Unfortunately Aharon Rabinowitz gives 2 results, one being using hold keyframes when you have two keyframes with the same position, and the other, setting interpretation to Linear for when the position moves on a straight line. Both are great solves but don’t touch on a continuous non-linear motion.

    yes please, what is that?

    Thank you, that is helpful.

It came to me probably an easier way to do this. If you pickwhip the opacity to the layer with keyframes and then subtract 18 from that value it will give what is needed.

    So, (18 – Pickwhip)

    Thanks

  • Hi, thanks guys for the posts. I tried to the trial of Form in addition with Particular and I like what I am getting. I can see also how using real smoke can be nice to use as a displacement. Thanks for the tips and great job Carl and Cody with “Becoming a Legend”. It’s a beautiful peace, and very impressive to be pulled off in the short time you had.

Thank you very much for clarifying that. I now have a good understanding of burnable media. Your info was very helpful.

Thanks a lot Jon. Your info is very helpful.

Just one question about the booktype. Is this easy to set to DVD-ROM? Would that option only be available in DVD Studio Pro and/or Adobe Encore, or would it also be available in a simple program like imovie? I assume this is something you set with the authoring software, is that correct?. Thanks,
