The only thing that isn’t working is my ability to render a project that’s using effects. After you instructed me to change the codecs with AviDemux, I did so and the clips imported fine into Vegas (with only a few glitches here and there – blotchy pixelated spots, etc). I can also render regular clips that don’t use any effects fine. I just can’t render any projects that use them, as in – when I go to render, nothing happens – the estimated time left and the elapsed time continue to grow while the percentage bar stays at zero and eventually I have to shut down Vegas, it freezes and I have to ctrl+alt+delete to shut it down.
I have tried using the regular templates that come with Sony AVC and WMV (both of the default templates) but none of them work.
The only other software I have installed is CuteFTP 8 Professional, Aimersoft DVD Ripper and FastStone Photo Resizer and none of these programs have ever caused an issue with SV.
Would you happen to have a program where I could share my screen with you and then you could let me know what the issue is by doing things yourself? Or is that not possible?
My personal email address, if you’d like it so we can communicate further (I’d appreciate it), is chelsea.volz@yahoo.com. You’ve always been such a great help to me here since I joined and I appreciate it all more than you know. I’m quite computer illiterate and I’m grateful that there are people like you available to help those of us who still have a passion for editing but aren’t quite as eloquent with all the technical aspects of computers just yet. 🙂 So thank you, regardless.

Oh, no. I’ve gotten AviDemux to work. Turns out I just wasn’t saving the files correctly. The only thing I couldn’t get to work was the PCM audio codec. AviDemux converts it fine, but Sony Vegas won’t read the audio portion of the clip if that’s the codec I select, so I’ve just been using MJPEG as the video codec and MP3 as the audio codec.
-
I just forgot to add that ALL of the clips in the video are the same format (AVI) and use the same codecs (M-JPEG and MP3) .
-
Vegas wouldn’t read it.
And all of the media in the project has gone through AVIDemnux. I am not using any third party FX. In fact, I’ve only used crossfades.
Would you happen to know what the original save template is for Sony AVC. Like, when you go to render something and you select Sony AVC and then the template is automatically seleted for you? I accidentally changed the template and now that’s what it goes to everytime I want to render something but it’s not correct and I can’t remember what it was originally.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks for everything.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using Sony Vegas Pro 9. 64-bit.
Thank you. I’d appreciate it if anyone knows. 🙂

Hey John. I am sorry to bug you again, but I have finally finished converting all of my media to the codec you suggested. I could only convert the video codec to MJPEG because PCM wouldn’t read on Sony Vegas so I just used MP3 for all of my files.
Now, I was working on a project earlier and everything was working really well and I didn’t really have any issues.
Then I started working on a separate project and I went to render it to see how it was turning out and it wouldn’t render. The Estimated Time Remaining kept decreasing while the Elapsed Time kept increasing. When I would try to cancel the render, the entire program would freeze until I had to end it via the task manager.Do you have any clue what the problem could be?

Okay, so I FINALLY figured out how to work the AviDemux program, but when it finishes converting the clip and I import it into Vegas, now the audio doesn’t work. Is there something I should download in order to make the PCM codec work?
Thanks so much! 🙂

Hmm, thank you for that, but I think I still may just convert all of my files. I think it’d be better to steer clear from these faulty formats regardless. But thank you! 🙂
Is there another program I can use to convert my files like the one you suggested? It seems that none of my files will work in it, although I may just be doing it wrong. I’ll explain what I do: I open the program, open my clip into the program, change the video on the left hand side to MJPEG and the audio to PCM and the format to AVI and then I go to File > Save As but as soon as I change the file name and save it, it crashes…
I hope there is another program that I can use to change the codecs. :-/ -
Okay, I’ve decided that I will convert the files I use. It’ll be better in the long run, anyway. 🙂 I’m also going to switch back to the 64-bit version of Vegas once I complete the file conversions. If I do so, will I be able to capitalize on my computer’s performance?
Thanks for checking it out for me!
Edit:
Here is the file:https://www.megaupload.com/?d=CM2TLVC7
Now, if I convert my files using the codecs you suggested, I shouldn’t run into anymore issues, correct? As in, there will be no more flickering while editing, there will be no more issues with not being able to see the audio or video, etc.?

Oh, okay, thanks! 🙂
Another issue I seem to having is that when I render a video, in the preview screen, it looks like it’s flickering. I get these lines across it for only a second, but it keeps happening throughout the clip. I was hoping that it wouldn’t show up in the rendered product, but it definitely does. I don’t know what causes it or how to fix it. It happens when I render in all three different formats we’ve mentioned here (the sony one, wmv and avi.)
