Hey, I was always of the mind that Animation was better than Pro Res… yet on a recent project, I’ve discovered that something very sinister is going on with Pro Res.

I’m using CS3 on a PC. I have the latest version of Quicktime Pro. I can open Pro Res files. When I transcode these files to Animation, I notice a drop in quality, a change in color space, and an increase in jaggies.

Not only that, but when I import the Pro Res files into AE, I see the same thing happen, as though AE is conveniently reinterpreting the file as Animation for me.

I can’t figure out why this is happening. I figured if the problem was in AE, then I would just convert the files in quicktime and see what I got… but that showed me that the problem was not localized to AE. Any ideas?

Apparently they’re NOWHERE. Seriously, how can this be? I don’t know, but everybody says you can’t transfer presets, so they mustn’t be stored like presets in EVERY OTHER ADOBE PRODUCT. Sheesh.
