Ok, I am very new to the industry (medically induced career change) but I do like the new JVC. Horses for courses – I wanted something “pro” quality capable of producing documentary/commercial output in a small, cheap to run form-factor. The FCP compatibility was an unexpected (at least when I started the search) bonus that is just brilliant. My previous work was DV via FireWire, NOT having to waste an hour to transfer an hours footage, or transcode via MPEG-Streamclip makes life sooo much easier. Of course backups become bigger now that you don’t have the original tapes to go back to, but with a BluRay burner for archiving, I think it will be manageable.

So just go get one and start enjoying! 🙂

  • Just waiting on my 100 to arrive myself 🙂 But to answer the question – No. But I have had a chance to play with a couple of USB readers and compare to my CF firewire reader. The SandiskImagemate comes very close at 32 sec to copy a 1.1 gig video clip to my mac’s internal drive. The FW reader clocked 27 sec for the same file. Both these tests done on a Sandisk Ducatti Extreme CF card. My old USB readers are now in the bin after clocking over 7 minutes for the same file!

    Charles.
