I have intermittently run up against this problem digitizing all kinds of stuff.

My solution has been to cry a little, and then digitize it again. That usually works.

AFAIK, its just FCP being stupid.

Just posted a show in 1920×1080 AJA 10bit RGB. Had no issues…

    Our workflow was:

    Edit DV offline.
Re-link FCP media to 10bit RGB files (changing sequence settings, obviously)
    Export specific shots for VFX.
    Render TIFFs out of Shake.
Use AE to make 10bit RGB QT out of TIFFs (10 bit QT is broken in Shake right now).
Replace VFX on timeline with the new QTs.
    Used FCP “Send to Color”.
Graded in Color, monitoring with KONA 3 on Christie Roadster.
    Rendered.
    Used Color’s “Send to FCP”.
Rendered out at 1080 and 720 with Compressor to Apple Uncompressed and DVCPro HD (our delivery format).

Observed no gamma shifts (thank god…).

Maybe if you could post your exact workflow like that, we could narrow it down?

Much more motion blur on the EX1 shot you posted. Looks better to me than the Z7 shot, but horses for courses.

Couldn’t see the 8 frame pattern you mentioned, would it be possible for you to name a couple of sharp frames?

Thanks – I think I can bind that to a keystroke with Quicksilver (which I use all the time) – so that’s great. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, it’s still a bummer, though. It took me a while to figure out what was doing this, and that that would work.

I would still say that FCP is doing this to me, though. The fact that cutting the last little bit off of the clip makes it work shows that nothing is actually wrong with anything – FCP is just choking on its own poor design.

Yeah, I know about that one. Doesn’t do it for me, as I must first select the relevant edit. Seems kind of dumb, as there are only two possible edits I could be referring to.

Also, it does a roll edit, not a ripple edit. Why would I want to change the next clip, too?

    Grrr…

Any Avid users out there who can comment on this? I’ve heard Avid has better trimming, and, honestly, this is enough for me to switch.
