What I’d suggest is to reset the camera to default factory settings and see if that makes a difference. Also put it onto full auto settings and see what that gives you. We had a similar thing happen to our EX1 and the reset worked.

This might not help. We use the FS100 and record 25p FX (which is also 24mbps)straight onto the SD card. I’d be surprised if Sony were going to limit the camera in that way. Is it an NTSC region camera? It might be Sony trying to protect territories and increase sales of their soon to be released recorder. Either way, if it’s true then it’s pretty bad form by Sony.

If you want to get heavily into colour grading I’d suggest something like the GoPro Cineform that’s a robust codec that improves colour space. We convert our green screen footage to this codec and it makes a massive difference in pulling an excellent key. If you’re just doing normal editing with a bit of grading then leave as is.

Sound is without doubt one of the most important aspects of video. My advice is don’t try to do it on the extreme cheap. For our D800’s we use the Azden FMX DSLR Mixer with a Senheisser radio lapel and a Rode NTG1 on a boom. the combination of these create superb audio recording.

This sounds like you’re having a hardware problem. We’ve been using CS6 from the outset with some pretty heavy projects and had no problems. Have you done all the latest updates? If not, have a look at your drives and ram memory.

Thanks Steve. I’ll look into the Avid codec as well.

From my experience in this industry you sometimes have to except you have your “Fantastic” clients and your “Bread & Butter” clients. By the sounds of it this one of yours is the latter and best to leave it at that.

Oh crikey… and I’ve got Production Assistant as well! Well I’m the one who is feeling like a real arse at the moment.

    Dave,

Thanks for the info. Personally I think the whole Prores thing is a completely pointless exercise furthered by Mac FCP based editors who know diddly squat but want to seem knowledgable. There is nothing worse, in my book, than an idiot who is yet to cotton on that they are indeed an idiot (and a lot of them seem to be users of Mac and FCP). I eventually gave the client the original files from the EX1 along with Quick Time hires files as back up and I’ve heard no complaints or grumbles.
