Can’t remember though, as that traumatic experience has been removed from my memory…I may have also had proper results with exporting the project as a self-contained Quicktime which should also render/encapsulate your transitions if you pick the proper export settings in relation to what you’ve been editing with..???

I had that problem once…I’m glad I haven’t seen it since..I was FULLY rendered and the same exact thing happened to me.
I gave up on going back and checking to see if there was even the most minor discrepancy between source and timeline or whatever. Based on other people’s advice for the sake of time, I put a “dummy” filter on the entire sequence – a filter that would force a full re-render, but with the attributes of the filter turned off. It was obviously some MORE rendering time, but it fixed the sequence for output.Chad Brewer

I wouldn’t get tied into a flat fee for the whole project..A lot of times when you do this for such a project, you end up having to do more work than you originally bid for the project and then your time is not being paid for. For something like this, I’d definitely come up with an hourly rate for work performed. Editorial jobs like this have a certain range in regard to the experience of the editor in the given market you’re in here in the United States. I would advise you to call a variety of post production facilities and or editors in your area and find out what the low and high end prices are and put yourself within that scale according to how skillful you are…

A cheaper solution to buying any equipment is to call our facility!

Considering this is your documentary, I’m assuming it’s an important project. Don’t waste your time doing standards conversions (PAL <-> NTSC) with ANY software. Your results will be poor at best and then if you compress to MPEG2 for DVD…Well, worse..You need to use specialized hardware if you want good results. Our company has high end Snell & Wilcox hardware that will do what you need…We do it all the time…Look us up and feel free to call. Shouldn’t we just provide new MacPro’s with more RAM and CPU power to anyone who complains that the ads are slowing their current computers down? Wouldn’t that work?
Also, regarding your last posts in this thread, did they make it through legal?
Did the agency creative directors approve them, or did you just “broadcast” on your own volition?;o)

I’ve had my web browser pointed at Rathbone Energy for a while…I hear they were hit by a storm a few years back and now robbed at gunpoint last October from their website…I can’t hail anyone on the phone and my email requesting a human being on the phone was responded by an auto-reply from Spring of 2009…I can’t send my batteries to any company that can’t provide me with a working phone number for their business…People seem to rave about this company, but I can’t tell if they even exist with their multiple, shady websites, and no ability to talk to live human beings…
If they can do business like this in Tennessee and never have to TALK to customers, well I’m at a loss…If they’re so great at reviving old batteries and don’t want to TALK to customers, I’d rather shell out $300 for a new pack from Anton Bauer and let them do whatever the hell it is they’re doing…Chad Brewer

I, like Bob Zelin, used to want to yell at the SRW-5500 for being so anti-tradition as far as VTR’s go…I learned the deck’s in’s and out’s after it spent a lot of time “learning” me. I don’t yell at it anymore..I was then pleasantly surprised when my company acquired the HDW-D1800 and it operated more like a traditional VTR – didn’t even need the manual after shadow boxing with the SRW-5500.
However, even after reading the entire manual and using it for years, there still is a deck that deserves to be yelled at because its menu system, operational controls, and RS422 protocol are all like having a bad headache while walking through a poorly designed maze: The Panasonic AJ-HD3700B. You have to hand it to Panasonic on this model, VERY good downconversion hardware for a VTR, but it has the user friendliness of MS-DOS with no keyboard.
This machine can humble (I mean, aggravate) even the heartiest of us video soldiers…Chad Brewer
