Any cagey veterans out there know anyone that can refurbish Anton Bauer Pro Pac 14 five pound bricks?
I am reluctant to buy any new gold mount packs for $300 at this point if someone can revive the couple limping ones I have…My chief engineer already revived a few of them by blasting them with high current to break the NiCad crystals, but a few of them still don’t want to pull tape for more than 5 minutes…
Any leads or advice would help. Or, if anyone wants to give me their Pro Pac 14’s for free, that would be cool too…

Anton will re-cell your old packs if you send them in, were they too expensive for you?

Anton Bauer told me they have NEVER re-celled batteries and that they don’t condone anyone else doing it because of possible spec parameter issues with their chargers…Looks like it’s back to $300 per new battery…

Something’s not right then, I’ll have to ask the C.E. who rebuilt the packs, but we’ve definitely had Antons re-built, back when they were ni-cads at least. We’re on the Hytrons now, which may be different. Maybe I mis-remembered and it was someone else that serviced them. All I know is we got plenty good use out of them, before and after.

    Thanks Mark.
I’d love to know if you know of someone you can service ProPac 14’s. Still trying to revive some of them before I buy new ones at $300 per.

Several years ago I sent some Anton Bauer 30/13 Belts to this place…
Provisional Battery Inc, in Duluth, Georgia.

Ask for Maria. They might be able to help you out.

    Good luck!

    James,
Thanks for the lead, but the number is disconnected and there is no web presence for the company…The search continues….I’m keeping this thread alive in the hopes that some old camera man will find it and say, “You still use NiCad battery packs in 2010? I’ve got 20 in my basement that I no longer use. I’ll sell them to you for $50 a piece if they pull tape.”

Believe me though, my wishful thinking only exists on the Creative Cow.

    Brian,
    Thanks for the response…
I’ve had my web browser pointed at Rathbone Energy for a while…I hear they were hit by a storm a few years back and now robbed at gunpoint last October from their website…I can’t hail anyone on the phone and my email requesting a human being on the phone was responded by an auto-reply from Spring of 2009…I can’t send my batteries to any company that can’t provide me with a working phone number for their business…People seem to rave about this company, but I can’t tell if they even exist with their multiple, shady websites, and no ability to talk to live human beings…
If they can do business like this in Tennessee and never have to TALK to customers, well I’m at a loss…If they’re so great at reviving old batteries and don’t want to TALK to customers, I’d rather shell out $300 for a new pack from Anton Bauer and let them do whatever the hell it is they’re doing…
