  • Do I need to re-encode all my media to these 2 codecs to be able to preview them via decklink card on the external monitor ?

We have the same question. We shot a feature documentary on 1080i50 PAL. We are editing here in Los Angeles on (so far) LCD Monitors at 60HZ.

We would like to install a Black Magic card and then hook up a PAL monitor so we can see the actual clips how it will be displayed in PAL countries.

We are trying to avoid having to re-encode all this EX1 footage into a BlackMagic Codec- this would take forever and require a lot more storage— or having to render the EX1 clips in Blackmagic Time-line just to see the external monitor output.

I’ve heard conflicting reports about going the Matrox route- as they do not have native EX1 settings. However, I heard that Matrox is codec independent so just find the closest setting – (I think 1920 x 1080 in a 4:2:2 color space as opposed to the EX1 4:2:0)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to best accomplish viewing EX1 footage on an external PAL monitor?

    Thanks,

    Chad
