Have you configured Xpress Pro for the particular deck that you’re using? I have also found that it won’t read a generic firewire deck but only specific makes and models that are in the Deck Configuration menu. How new is your minidv deck? Sometimes the newest models haven’t made it into the Xpress Pro software as options and you can try calling the deck the most recent model of the deck that is available on AVID. Generally, I find the Xpress Pro really finicky about capturing.

  • I can’t reformat the drive either, it’s locked for doing anything but reading….any other suggestions?

  • I just tried this, but found I still didn’t have the ability to change permissions. The assistant editor who dig’d all the material onto the drive has just informed me that it was formatted for PC and I’m on a MAC, which is probably why I’m having this problem. So now I’m going to copy all of the files onto another drive, reformat the new drive for MAC and then copy the media back on. Wish me luck!

  • In MAC this is accomplished by highlighting the drive and clicking “Get Info” (Command i). Unfortunately, when I do this on this particular drive, it doesn’t give me the option to change “Read Only” to anything else. So, still scratching my head here!

  • Thanks epontius, unfortunately I’m on a MAC so none of the XP ideas work. I found the box for Personal File Sharing in System Preferences, but it wasn’t checked off.

  • Actually, I am logged in all the time as the administrator. I just accessed MAC help to see how I could change the permissions on this drive, but the options for changing the permissions don’t come up. Is it possible that the drive has been locked by the computer that it was connected to when the material was digitized and now I can’t unlock it? The linking problem has been fixed by the assistant e-mailing the faulty bins to me, but I’m going to have to dig further material to this drive in the future and want to solve this problem now.

    Thanks guys for your help!

  • I’ve tried deleting those but the system won’t allow me to trash them, saying I don’t have sufficient privileges to do so. Any thoughts on how to get around this, or do I need some info from the people who sent me the drive and did the diging in the first place?

  • I have solved this problem using Xpress Pro Help–should have gone there to begin with. My mistake was in not moving the bin files from the hard drive to my projects folder….
