Okay, this is weird.
All I did was change the System Settings -> Display -> Color to Generic RGB Profile.
It didn’t make a difference at first, but then I quit FCP and launched it again, and now it works (for now)…I don’t really understand what caused it to change in the first place though.

Here’s mine…QuickTime player on the left, FCP 7 Canvas on the right. The QuickTime is correct, and the canvas is way off.
I tried downloading QuickTime 7 and I see the checkbox for “Enable Final Cut Studio compatibility…when enabled, video is not displayed using ColorSync. Source colors are read with 2.2 gamma and are displayed in a color space with 1.8 gamma.”

Curse you Apple!!!
Oh well, I guess it’s a good thing that I’ve already started transitioning to Premiere and have little to do with FCP anymore anyways…I only noticed because I was doing an edit from a project from awhile ago.
I guess the alternative for me is to use an external monitor for color…probably not a bad idea anyways, but it also means I need a bigger desk!
Thanks!

Figures 🙂
Is it possible to go back to Snow Leopard from Mavericks?
Thanks!

Actually, I ended up getting a new one, it sounds a bit better…no weird hum at least, but still obviously not as clean as a mic that costs $500. I haven’t really used it enough to say whether it is good enough for some situations or not.

I have a Zoom H1…no problems or complaints.

After a bit of research, I think the issue at hand is that of pulldown, and that creating 24p DVDs with Compressor and DVD Studio Pro and letting the DVD player do the work, is the source of my dissatisfaction and unhappiness with the results.
I am a bit unfamiliar with pulldown so I googled a bit, and am a little more informed than before.
I tried a workflow where I let After Effects do the pulldown, and the motion results were what I was looking for, but then I got the poor Compressor quality results (long story…basically the resizing issue), so perhaps doing that in conjunction with the workflow that David Rehm suggested, might be a better solution. I will have to try it when I have time. Maybe even finding a demo of a high end encoder, something that might let me encode a minute or so, that would be a good test as well.
Thanks!

I don’t know what you mean by wwssw. Is adding the pulldown a step in the workflow…something that isn’t automatically done when converting to MPEG2?

Yeah, I know it’s a cheap mic, but I know a few people who have these and swear by them. One of them, I emailed my clip to, and he said he’s never had that problem with his, so I’m guessing mine must be defective. The first two times I used it, I got flawless results, so something must have happened somewhere somehow.
I tried removing the background noise with Audition, Apple Soundtrack Pro, and Sound Soap, and didn’t really get great results since it wasn’t a constant frequency…it was fluctuating quite a bit.
Thanks!
