    Thanks for spelling it out a bit more clearly, Brendan. Was merely hoping I could do it with AE, and my tests were very close, but I have no problem finding a different way to do this. In the end I still learned something important about AE.

    Thanks for your input, I will take that into consideration in the future.

    I’ve been looking for more info on multi-pass encoding in AE for most of today and just found an entry in the Help that states AE CS3 does NOT support multiple encoding passes. Not a huge deal since I’ve been playing with the settings all day and finally able to acheive acceptable renders using DivX single pass.

    Under preferences, go to Multiprocessing and check the box. Pay attention to the RAM requirements for multiprocessing, as each core needs it’s own chunk of RAM. I run a dual core and leave the RAM settings at default with no problems, but a quad may need to tweak the RAM settings. Good luck!
