Thanks Noah.
That makes sense. It must be much more prevelent in production type work, I still haven’t seen raids in News Broadcasting. In the field that is, we have them in house {Server}. I guess time and money are an issue, not that they aren’t in production.
We typically use 2 16g cards a day to shoot enough material to put together a 1:30-1:45 piece. During major news coverage we will go into 4-5 and offload them to external drives.

Thanks Shane.
I figured it was due to the cards being recycled, I was just wondering why a raid instead of a regular drive. It makes sense though if you have to reuse them, especially in Production type work. I’m glad to hear you’ve had good experiences with cal digit, I plan to get one here in the next week or so.
I notice that their are several types of connectors for the raid, firewire, eSata, etc… any particular preference?
I looking for speed redundancy and reliability. I’m sure we all are, lol.

Man it is really tuff making this desicion. I have never work for myself or had my own equipment until last spring. I started assembling gear little by little and taking on smaller projects, now that I feel I can start to move into better paying jobs or projects, I’m having a hell of a time putting quality gear together.
Not because its to expensive, although it is. LOL, but because theirs so many options and I have a small amount of tech background.
I can operate the equipment, putting it together thats always been maintenance’s problem, lol.
I will take a look at the drives you suggested, I’ve been looking into the G Spped Drives as well.
One more question.
I see almost all of these drives average approx. the same rpm 7200 or 10,000 and also the drive space, 1tb to 6tb or so. My question is does the raid 0, 0+1,5, settings etc… Is that something that is default when purchasing a model or is it adjustable and you can choose which way to use the drive?
Thanks for the input, I’m off to checkout the one you mentioned.
Hey can somebody call maintenace for me please!!
LOL, ahh the good ole days.Thanks.

Thanks Cornelius. I just tried the settings from another post that I attached. The text on screen looks like it is jagged when I compressed it and dragged it into DVD pro. I will try using 720p hd settings and see if that works instead.

Thanks guys.
I’m glad to hear that it doesn’t cause problems, like I said the article I read If I remember correctly, They were praising the card. It was either written by someone on creative cow or posted on the cows site. I really just looking to upgrade now while I have the funds, I don’t want to wait till I’m having troubles.
Thanks

Hey Jeremy thanks for the Tutorial, it breaks it {MXF4Mac} down very nicely. I can’t believe its free software. It seems to be very useful. I’m going to download it ASAP before P2 gets wise, lol.
Hey did I hear correctly that this software can take P2 footage edited in Avid and convert them in QT ot fcp files and vice-verse?

Jeremy why does MXF sound familiar to me.
What is MXF4mac?
What is it used for?
Thanks

Thanks Steve. Ironically what little I know about the subject I’ve learned it from the tutorials zacuto has, lol.
When you are on the outside looking in, it can be complicated but with the help of the people on this site as well as some others I’m slowly figuring things out cinema lenses.
Thanks for your help Steve.
