Well , what can you expect from someone who thinks that a Titler in which you can’t see the background beneath and doesn’t have Border nad Shadows within is a good Titler.

What could I expect?

AVID put some of their interface on it, not long ago. But the REAl duty for the DS is NOT editing. On this is no better than a Media Composer or even an Xpress.

.- Well, I care. I don’t like to type blindly. With Avid’s marquee you have the same features (and more) , and

Surprise!!! you can SEE THE BACKGROUND.

The FCP’s titler is the only one titler that you can’t see the backgroun when you are typing.

While this would be OK for a lousy $10 NLE, It is not for a “superb Avid buster” NLE, like FCP pretends to be.

The color correction in FCP is very poor.

There is no Media management in FCP, which is CRUCIAL.

For long, complicated projects with multiple versions, bins and sequences and no time, this is a MUST.

that’s why AVID is the undisputable King in TV stations, large production Houses and, mainly, News.
Nobody else come close.

The Multicam implementation in FCP doesn’t even lit a candle to the Avid one.

And I’m yet to see a good (INCLUDED) stabilization in FCP, like the one in Avid (“Shaky Video”, does it rings a Bell?).

I really can’t comprehend what’s the hype about FCP, It’s about the same to Premiere Pro, and people thinks Premiere is crappy.

I work (for money) with an FCP 5.0.4 in a “non plus ultra” top end G5 and the feature I see the most is the “Beachball”.

And I prefer Premiere. At least, a much Better titler.

.- AVID DS (formerly SOFTIMAGE DS) with the Equinox boardset, not AVID DS NITRIS.

Earlier AVID DS and DS HD used a 3Dlabs card.

I don’t know who you are, but chances are I was editng when you were in Elementary School. I’ve worked on every NLE humanity has invented.

AVID DS is NOT a NLE (although you can edit on it)

Avis DS has NEVER BEEN intended to be an NLE. It must be Terrible to edit a long project on it.

Is a compositing/finishing app more related to Flame or even After Effects than to AVID and it comes from the Canadian Softimage family, not from the Media Composer’s.

The early versions had NOTHING in common with an NLE, Avid has given DS some NLE features

For example, The basic titler in FCP is absolutely crappy AND THAT’S A KNOWN FACT, even for the FCP’s fanatics.

It doesn’make the title over the video, You have to type blindly first and later you can move it.

The FCP’s titler doesn’t have Border and Shadows within (that’s really weird) and the interface is odd and unfriendly. You have limited positioning choices when you are making the title (center, left , etc)

Is the worst titler ever.

.-And Everyone that believed FCP was a great system is switching back to Avid, once they get to know the truth about FCP ( Slow, clumsy, offensive Media management (Is there one?), inacceptable Titlers and ridiculously cumbersome ways to do the simplest things)

Premiere Pro 2.0 is a lot better.

I work in a company that tried to switch to FCP. they bought two top notch FCP suites with Xserve, Xraid, AJA IO and all the toys you can imagine. Three months later they bought 5 Adrenalines with a Unity System.

Now, They use the FCP suites for minor projects with long deadlines.

I prefer to pay more for an Avid, even to switch to Premiere Pro, is a better deal.

2. You can add a Kona card.

.- You can also sell it.

I never use Premiere unless:

1) The project is very short.
2) Need DVD.
