March 22, 2016 at 7:59 am in reply to: Windows 10 renaming drives and confusing Sony VegasYes I believe I did have the external connected while viewing Disk Mgmt. However I made a discovery that solved my problem. It seems the FIRST external I plug in is assigned F://, and the SECOND one is assigned H:// so as long as I plug something in before my current project drive, I’m good. Almost finished editing the project tonight. Yippee!
Thanks for your replies and caring enough to help me work through this issue.

March 21, 2016 at 1:29 am in reply to: Windows 10 renaming drives and confusing Sony VegasI think I understand what you were saying better now.
I’m out of my depth here so just wanted to verify that I understand what you are suggesting.
I’m trying to add a screenshot of my Disk Management dialog box, but the upload keeps failing.
This is what I see:
The top section has a list under Volume there are two blank lines, then RECOVERY D twice Seagate Backup drive (F:) and Windows (C:).The F drive is the one that Sony Vegas thinks is called H.
If I understand correctly, you are saying I can simply change the name of the Seagate Backup Drive from F: to H: and everything should link back up?
Thanks again

I thought of that, but was concerned I’d make things worse. When I go to the Disk Management tool, it only lists the C and D drives, the rest are blank – no letter assigned, so I don’t know which one to change.
If I could figure that out somehow, do you really think this would permanent fix my problem?
Thanks

I just had my Panasonic DVX-100a repaired at The Video Clinic in Santa Monica, and have some concerns about my experience that I need to share. While I do not doubt that the gentleman who owns the shop is qualified to repair equipment, his customer service skills are very lacking. I was told they charge a $140 diagnostic fee, payable up front. I asked what that means. He told me that they apply the fee to the repair cost, but charge the fee to evaluate what is wrong. I also asked about a head cleaning, and he said it was included.
When I dropped the camera off, he noted there was no lens cap. I mentioned that I would like to replace it, but have only found aftermarket ones. He said, “We can get you a lens cap.”
When the estimate came in at over $1000 for a firewire and headphone jack repair, I balked and he got a little hostile. This is a great little workhorse camera, but I will be upgrading to HD soon, so did not think that spending $1000 on this camera made sense. He said I would forfeit my $140 if I did not get the camera repaired. I asked about the cleaning, and he said it costs $308 and is only included if you get the camera repaired. He started using all sorts of techinical jargon to describe what was wrong. I told him I did not understand what he was saying. I had to ask him “talk to me like I don’t repair cameras for a living.”
I asked how much to just repair the headphone jack. He came back with $540+. I said and that will include the cleaning, he said yes.
Since I needed the cleaning and had already paid $140, I agreed. Before I even picked up my camera, he ran my credit card number again for the additional $400! Which seemed really shady to me. And he charged me $38 for the lens cap.
Maybe I am naive, but “cleaning included” and “we can get you a lens cap” seemed like this services would be thrown in to make me a happy customer.
The repair seems sound, he provided me with the replaced parts, and the camera was ready ahead of the promised time, but I still feel uncomfortable with how I was dealt with as a customer. And next time, think I will look for another service provider.

I was able to borrow another miniDV camera to try to capture on my system. It seems to work much better, but since the problem was intermittent in the first place . . .I am cautiously optimistic. At any rate, everyone’s advice helped me get my project back on track.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. I think my anti-virus software may have been kicking on in the background. Even with nothing running, I get a dropped frame every now and then. Fortunately I mostly work in documentary film, so I have a high ratio of footage and able to cut around it.
Thanks again,

Thanks Mike! It worked!!

I have lined up another camera to try for tonight. I do have another friend with Vegas and will try the opposite way too. The reason why I didn’t think it was the camera is because it has worked fine in the past, and the tape play normally in the camera when not being captured. I will test these suggestions and report back.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will try that and report back.

I did. I just clicked on it and played it in Windows Media Player and it had the same problem. I also can play the raw footage fine in the same camera I am using to capture.
I am going to try to capture with another camera tonight and see if that helps.
