  • First my apologies for posting to an old thread, but this is indeed a problem as I have just verified with extensive testing.

I’ve been working with all versions of Compressor (until 3.0.5) as they have been released and they always have encoded DVDs fairly well, but I currently have the same issue with a MacBook Pro with the identical configuration: compressor 3.0.5, OSX 10.6.8, FCP 6.0.6, etc.

A ProRes 422 file (1440 x 1080 30p HD) encodes horribly using that setup (text and image pixelized with many artifacts), but my old Titanium G4 encodes the exact same file as a pristine DVD with crisp text and little noticeable difference from the original file; it is even acceptable with the default 90 min best preset.

It is important to point out that the same FCS2 (same version of compressor, etc.) worked well before we upgraded from OSX 10.4.11 to 10.6.8 and reinstalled FCS2. After the upgrade, encoding to H.264 works fine; downsizing to 720×480 (ProRes, H.264, etc.) works fine; but encoding to SD DVD yields extremely poor results whether encoding from HD or SD files. Interestingly, tweaking the settings (different VBR, CBR, GOPs, frame controls, etc.) doesn’t make the difference that I would expect based on my experience with previous setups.

Browsing the forums, it seems the issue affects also compressor 3.5. I’m suspecting the Quicktime setup in 10.6.8, but any insight would be appreciated.

we are having the same issue in a school computer lab. Space bar does not work with our default keyboard (Spanish ISO) on FCS 7 and FC Express 4 with OSX 10.6. Does work with US English and regular Spanish Keyboard. Also would appreciate ideas as to how resolve.
