I think it is a FASCINATING idea, and I can think of a million reasons why it would be nice to PERMANENTLY MARRY together two clips into one “clip” file, even if the system has to stop down to “build” the corresponding media clip.

Yes, we have nesting, but I personally have NEVER felt nesting was my friend. never trusted nests, primarily because long ago you read about how “nests” are the first thing that begin to clog up a project file. What if you know, for sure, that you need to pieces of media to live together “as one” for the duration of your product.

I didn’t realize before how much I want to be able to “contextually” click on two highlighted pieces of media and link them END to END into one bit of media. This is what I imagined MERGED CLIPS to mean….but it didn’t.

    IMHO.

well, I followed everyones advice and opted NOT to upgrade on my primary workstation.

    but somethingg odd….

i installed the FCP production suite upgrade on my DP G4 867 and on my 1 GHZ laptop, and got a strange ERROR on both installs. After requesting all of the different discs, i got a final error that said something vague like “there was an error in your installation.”

that said, all of the applications are there, and i have opened them and they seem to be installed, though FCP 5 exhibited a very strange glitch. my viewer window was GREEN. i was able to load a clip into the viewer and it played fine, but then i loaded some slug into the window, and, same thing. green.

so, for now, i’m happy to not be seeing green on my MONEY MAKING FCP machine. not time for troubleshooting.

Apple emailed me the Fed Ex tracking number, and mine is shipping tomorrow!

Quick (possibly stupid) question – does FCP5 only run on Tiger? Also, does it only work with QT7?

I have a show that starts editing next week, and I’m SOOOOO tempted to use FCP5 as I have multi-camera set ups. But, I realize this could be an exercise in frustration. I’d just like to run FCP5 without getting caught up in Tiger troubleshooting.
