Thank you Todd! I mostly do interviews and testimonials. That’s why I had the Astras in mind. Are the 6x astras brighter or are they in-between the Astra EP and the normal Astras?

I really would like to hear from someone that has 100-C experience, mainly cause I know I can modify them to be soft and they can be controlled better than a panel if I need to. I am mainly concerned about the output of the Astra and 100-C at 100% and how dramatically a softbox on a 100-C will lower the intensity.

I spoke to visionsmith today. Apparently they are working on a Delano for the 300w and 650w moles. Said they are looking at a September release if all goes well. I looked into the astra. Couldn’t find a cri rating, but they do seem nice from the reviews I saw. Really wish we had some sort of rental house in my area where I could see it first hand. But I do see the convenience in having battery powered lights that are extremely portable. I saw a duo kit on adorable that has a soft bi color and regular bi color in a hard case. And a trio that had two soft and one regular astra. But I think I am sold on the hive. Just to be able to throw light a good distance sold me on it as none of the lights I have can do that. Also looked into the small lykos bi color on camera lite panels for wedding receptions and such where it would be impractical to have an actual light setup.

Again thanks for the help. I’ve always been a fan of mole lights, but these other options seem I can get more bang for my buck without losing quality.

Erik, thanks for the info. I didn’t know about the visionsmiths. I have a 4 light mole kit (mickey, betweenie, and 2x tweenies) that can use some converting. May save me a bit of cash there. The hives sound really awesome, but i’m thinking if i convert my old mole lights, I may not need those. I’ve always been hesitant about bi-color light panels though. I was thinking maybe just buying a couple good softboxes for my existing moles for the soft light. Though light panels are very portable and take up very little space.
